LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
We are Serlio Software, makers of CaseComplete. It's a requirements gathering tool that is focused on "use cases." We are a much smaller company than most of our competitors, but we have a great product that people love. We want to have our website look great - but we're not trying to look too stuffy.
You can see the current website here: www.casecomplete.com
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a design of one landing/home page and a design of one interior page.
Our website isn't just a brochure - it's the primary way we sell our software - so simplicity and usability are key. To that end, I think want navigation at the top that looks nice, but doesn't take up too much screen space. Menu options should be:
"Home | Tour | Download | Customers | Help/Support | Forums | Buy"
We also need navigation at the bottom of the page for the less important items.
Here are some miscellaneous requirements:
We'd like the design to be 1000 pixels wide.
We will keep and use our existing logo (we like the color too).
We want something clean and simple and 'open' looking.
The landing page should have a full width section towards the top where we can put a screen shot and some marketing copy. Below this, we want 3 columns where we can put other info (testimonials, news, links to blog entries/twitter posts).
We're looking for large/clear typography.
We like our blue logo and would like to work in a complementary color (shade of orange?)
We like an 'open' design without a lot of boxes around the text and columns.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
We sell our product to Business Analysts and Project Managers who work in IT. These are the people who specify requirements for IT projects with our tool. Our customers like us because our software is much easier to learn and use than many of our competitors.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Love the clean, simple, effective design of: http://www.basecamphq.com - love the typography, layout, and 'feel'. I almost want to copy this site.
A similar sized competitor has a nice site: http://www.axure.com/ (like the layout)
Like the big, columnar menu at the bottom of http://www.ning.com/ (also like the clean look of this site).
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The primary objectives of the entire site are to 1) get visitors to download the 30-day trial and/or 2) get visitors to view a 'tour' of the product (currently working on this). So we need nice looking buttons and a simple design to get visitors to the landing page to do either of these actions.
