LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

The site is a hosted project management application. We believe that there are some good SaaS sites that offer project management software (like Basecamp), but none really offers software that's geared to non-technophiles or designers. We've been thinking about how this software works for a long time, and are building it in part for ourselves and in part for the people that we see struggling with other online solutions, or those that use cobbled-together offline solutions.

The software (which is currently nameless) is going to be mostly AJAX based, but will be lightweight (as in: not like 280slides).

Our background is in software product development and software engineering, and we're building the site in Django/Python. We're big on usability and ease-of-use, and believe that great software should "just make sense" for the target audience. We've built "enterprise"-grade software, software for K-12 schools, and even some consumer-oriented software. We've been involved in some successful Software-as-a-Service companies, and have started up companies in both the software and media worlds.

We appreciate great design, and are highly critical and demanding because we only want to put our names on things that we believe in and love to look at and use.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We will provide wireframes and a login to the current version of our hosted application. We need photoshop, layered images of the design. We'd like to have a few initial designs to choose from, and will select one and have you build the rest of the site pages based on that design. We will likely need a couple of iterations, but the right design will be obvious, and we'll let you know quickly what we like and what we don't like.

The design should use standard web widgets, though for certain things like calendars and multi-select boxes (or even checkboxes) we might be writing custom jQuery widgets, so we can implement just about anything you can come up with. We do require that each page follows a standardized layout so that we can make heavy use of HTML templates.

The design should work for both our application as well as our public website (though it may need to be tweaked for our website, and may not require the same navigational elements). We will take your design and translate it into HTML and code it ourselves.

We need the design quickly. We'd like to finish the design process by Dec 12.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Informal project managers. These are normal, average, small-business employees who need to manage projects, but don't consider themselves "project managers". They can use a computer, but aren't necessarily "savvy". Currently, they make use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) to keep track of project progress, and have invented their own method of tracking tasks and trading documents.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

We must have:

* a design that feels light, and uses a lot of whitespace and white backgrounds

We don't want:

* overly desktop-looking software (this is a web app, after all)

* dark design

* overly graphical buttons

* crowded text
