LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

This is for SHIFT Communications, http://www.shiftcomm.com. We're a fast growing PR agency with a well-known reputation for excellence in Social Media. We are just 6 years old but have name-brand clients like J&J, Bing, Google, Club Med, Virgin Mobile, etc.

We view ourselves as a hybrid firm: we totally love getting our clients featured in mainstream media like the NYTimes or the TODAY Show ... and we're good at it. But, we also understand that it's no longer about calling 50 reporters on a tired old list. So, we now talk to THOUSANDS of ordinary folks via Twitter, Facebook, etc. and have a hard-earned reputation for doing it right - with quality and smarts.

Please have a look at our website for a sense of our logo and design elements. Please also visit our principal's blog, http://www.pr-squared.com. Todd is a well-known guy in Social Media/PR circles and we're probably going to want to play that up on the site (without inflating his ego). ;)

Note that our clients are both startups *and* FORTUNE 1000 consumer & tech brands. The design must evoke confidence and creativity but not come off as so funky that it might turn off a big-name marketing vp.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a site design revamp that looks really cool but doesn't mess with our SEO. Splashpage is biggest factor, but the winning design must be transferable to internal site pages as well, e.g., we'll need to see a template for internal pages. Again, please have a look at our current site to get a sense for the type of content we currently feature.

Please note that this brief is being written by someone who is NOT versed in web design: we assume by "uncoded" that you will deliver a design and any files we need in order to turn things over to a web site shop that can turn your vision into reality. Right?

We are also happy to turn up any additional files that might help. Just ask!

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Chief Marketing Officers, Directors and VPs of Marketing, at large companies. CEOs and VPs of Marketing at small companies.

Most come to us for either PR *or* Social Media but a growing number like to know that we are savvy about *both* realms.

It's important to note that there are a LOT of Social Media charlatans out there: we get kudos for "getting it" from clients, media, and respected analyst firms like Forrester Research.

We've included a slide about our "hybrid" approach to help you visualize what we are talking about. We are not wed to the term "hybrid."

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

http://basecamphq.com/

http://vimeo.com/

http://superfan.com/

http://sterlingpr.com/

http://www.viget.com/

http://www.salesforce.com/

You'll note that a lot of these feature a "big box" of content followed by some "buckets" of less impt content down below that main box. That's fine but don't feel like you must follow this design technique. We are a different kind of agency, one that is known for challenging convention, and we're a-okay with trying to do the same with our website ... so long as it makes sense, is intuitive, and clean.

We tend to like a lot of white space. We like gorgeous photography that doesn't feel like it came from a stock photo library. We don't like over-crowded. We don't like to see fonts that look "typed," they ought to look like images. We like a big font over a small font (e.g. at http://www.mullen.com). Think bold.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Don't want to constrain your thinking!
