Creative Brief

Who are you?

Direct Textbook is a price comparison search engine for textbooks. Our site searches numerous online bookstores that carry new and used textbooks, as well as rental and ebook options. We provide a table that shows the price of the book at each store in addition to the shipping cost and any applicable coupons.

We also provide a search for people looking to sell books. The service searches 20 companies that will buy your book and provides the amount each company will pay for the book.

What do you need?

We need to lower the bounce rate of 4 different landing pages on our site. Since the primary action visitors take on our site is to search for books we need to get more people searching.

To accomplish this we would like to do a better job of segmenting visitors when they enter the site. Some visitors are looking to buy a book, while others are looking to sell a book. Our current design focuses entirely on the visitors who want to buy (which is the majority right now) and we only have a link to the buyback (sell) search from the homepage. Buyback is only a small part of our business but it has the most room for growth. Therefore we need to highlight the sell your book feature without taking away from the buy your book search.

We are open to ideas on how to achieve the above. One possibility we thought of is to use 4 separate landing pages possibly with a horizontal navigation or tab system between the header and the body.

The landing pages we need are:

1.Combined buy and sell page: This page would be used for our homepage (current homepage)
2.Buy search only page (doesn't yet exist)
3.Sell search only page (http://www.directtextbook.com/buybacksea...)
4.Ebook search only page (http://www.directtextbook.com/ebooksearc...)

Whatever navigation is used we will need room for up to 4 additional "tabs" that may be used in the future.

We also want to de-clutter the pages. We think this can be accomplished by moving some of our current text below the fold or removing some text altogether.

Who Is Your Audience?

Book buyers and sellers including students, professionals, parents, and schools. We would like to convey an impression of trust. We want visitors to feel that our site is worth their time because they will get accurate results while saving time and money.

We Absolutely Must Have

The designs should work with our current interior layout of search and price results including colors, fonts, borders. Although we will consider redoing the templates for these interior pages if necessary.

We should have the following elements available on the combined buy/sell homepage above the fold

Country code selector
Contact Us link
About Us link
Booklist link
Recently Viewed Link
Search box for buying
Search box for selling
Home link
Logos of stores we search
BBB logo
Multiple book search link
