What do you do?
The New York Opera Alliance (NYOA) is a consortium of New York not for profit alternative/independent opera companies and producers established to enhance and support the visibility and viability of their organizations, both individually and collectively.
NYOAs primary objectives are to increase the publics awareness of constituent organizations in the five boroughs of New York City, and to share ideas and resources among member companies/organizations.

Describe the target audience for your website design
NYOAs primary public face will be in the form of a highly interactive website, which will feature a calendar that allows users to view opera and opera related events taking place at venues throughout the five boroughs of New York City. In addition, the website will provide dedicated pages and links to member websites. The goal of the website is to be a THE one-stop resource where audiences can discover the abundance and diversity of opera in New York City.
The target audience is the diverse cross-section of audiences and artists who are interested in Opera in New York City.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your website design
NYOAs Core Values are: Awareness Communication Community - Connection
The Core Brand Message is: New York Opera Alliance represents the abundance and diversity of opera in the five boroughs of New York City.
How is your company different from your competitors?
NYOA is an alliance of over 20 different opera companies/organizations in New York City - each with very distinct identities. Rather than portray any single company identity, both the logo and website need to graphically reflect that we are a group of companies - connected - coming together - to share the diversity of opera in the five boroughs of New York City.
Style and Concept
What website design styles do you like?
Clean but artistic - well laid out so links are easy to find, but not boring. We would love something that is dynamic and has a sense of movement and life - something with curved lines as opposed to a simple "blocky" looking site would be ideal.
What colors do you want to see in your website design?
We are completely open in this regard, though the color palate should not look like a rainbow exploded. Our logo is black, grey and white - but we have an alternate version in blue (see attachments). The website's use of color should probably limit the color palate so it is not too loud and over the top - but it does not need to be only one or two colors - just tasteful!
What colors do you NOT want to see in your website design?
Again, no colors are off the table, but we don't want an overdose of color - tasteful use of color that reflects the vibrancy of who we are - without going overboard.
What adjectives should best describe your website design?
Brand personality traits related to visual identity include: Friendly, Accessible, Entertaining, Evangelical (non-religious In the sense of spreading the word), Feisty, Exciting. We also want to AVOID anything stereotypically "opera" (ie. fat ladies with viking horns etc.)
What content must be included in the website design?
Please see attached creative brief. We have provided the NYOA logo which should be incorporated into the design.
So that all entries can be judged fairly against each other - we have not included any placeholder images for the templates - we want each designer to feel free to format the templates based on their creative instincts - not on a set of images with pre-set sizes. For this reason, please use a solid black placeholder block wherever you imagine an image being - with the words PLACEHOLDER FOR IMAGE over the black section so we have a sense of where images would be, their size, etc.
