Business Info

Business Name

FoodStart.com

What do you do?

LOW JARGON
Through its internet site, Foodstart.com enables restaurant owners to raise capital in small increments from people in their community - the same people who will be critical to their long-term success.

HIGH JARGON
A reward-based, crowd funding portal for the food and beverage industryi.e. Kickstarter for restaurants.

Do you have a desired website screen size?

Would be nice if some graphic elements stretched to cover the entire width of the screen, but the core content should be centered in the middle to accommodate a 1024 x 768 screen.

How many pages (maximum of 4) do you need designed?

3 (though one has more elements than the other two).

Target Audience

What is your industry?

Describe the target audience for your website design

We are primarily targeting men, aged 25-34 with some disposable income.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your website design

The site should feel HIP and BEAUTIFUL and POPULAR like the person you most would have wanted to date when you were 24. Yet it also needs to be functional and fast.

This is an emotional relationship we are trying to create. Put another way, the site should evoke the kind of HIP, BEAUTIFUL, and POPULAR restaurant people wish they would have started or owned a part of.

How is your company different from your competitors?

We are the only crowdfunding site focused on restaurants and the food and beverage industry.

Style and Concept

What website design styles do you like?

------See attached Design Guidelines 1.0 for a lot more detail-------

For the splash page, we like, photo intensive, beautiful sites like these:

http://www.jetsetter.com
http://minibarbyjoseandres.com/
http://www.culinariafoodandwine.com/
http://www.bing.com
http://www.daimu.com.br/
http://www.auberge-de-l-ill.com/V2/index...
http://matthewdwilliams.com/html/work.ht...
http://www.caravanonexmouth.co.uk/

and for interior, information-rich pages, we like these:

http://www.foodily.com/u/joythebaker?tab...

http://www.jetsetter.com/homes/hawaii/ma...

SITES WE DON'T LIKE
http://www.thedailybeast.com (overwhelming feel like we're being screamed at)
http://www.citizenshipworks.org/ (feels like a web site for a pharmaceutical company)

FONTS
Consistent fonts that draw on our logo are obviously key. And publicly available or inexpensive fonts are good as well. The logos font, by the way is [x]. These people use fonts really well I think:
https://www.mint.com/

WHITE SPACE
Is in short supply, but a lot of empty space goes a long way online.

ART
We use istockphoto.com feel free to go to their site and download comp. graphics (they will have a line through them but thats fine). That way we if end up using your design it will be easy to go ahead and purchase the rights. That said, if you have another stockphoto agency you prefer, that is fine too.

We do like SLICK, BEAUTIFUL photographs. Photos of food are okay, but always come across as a little generic - restaurant interiors are better. We don't like posed photographs of smug chefs holding a glass of wine while smiling at the camera.

What colors do you want to see in your website design?

------See attached Design Guidelines 1.0 for a lot more detail-------

We obviously want to rely on the color in our logo [insert exact color here]. But black, grey, and white are also good. If you are going to have other colors, keep them a minimum and focus on colors available here
http://www.fashiontrendsetter.com/conten...

What colors do you NOT want to see in your website design?

No purple!

What adjectives should best describe your website design?

HIP, BEAUTIFUL, and POPULAR

as well as

SIMPLE, TRUSTWORTHY, and, well, HIP!

What content must be included in the website design?

Our logo, of course (attached below) in various formats

Also, the attached PDF documents all the site elements that need to be on on each page.

Do you have additional requirements or links you want to share?

------See attached Design Guidelines 1.0 for a lot more detail-------

VISUAL FEATURES
As for visual features, we like these slideshow/scrolling visual elements found at the bottom of which is a neat way of embedding information:
http://connect.hbo.com/

and
http://bookburningparty.com/awardsubmiss...

We also like how this web sites navigation lights up when passed over
http://www.squareup.com

Like we did with our logo competition, we will try to over specific, feedback on every single entry.

Finally, if you are open to it, we'd like to establish an ongoing, design relationship with whichever firm or designer is the winner.
