New Male Studies Journal
What do you do?
We are creating an International, Interdisciplinary, Open Access Journal.
New Male Studies: An International Forum is an open access online interdisciplinary journal for research and discussion of issues facing boys and men worldwide.
Our Main Foci
Several broad areas of fundamental interest and concern have been identified:
(1) the experience and outcomes of education for boys and young men, (2) challenges and difficulties of developmental transition for males especially adolescents, (3) significant disparities in health outcomes for men compared with women, (4) the vital role of fathering, (5) the inordinate number of males in the penal system, (6) the characterisations of men and boys cultivated within popular culture, academe, and many social institutions, and (7) how men experience and are affected by the kinds of occupational, familial, and social roles that are culturally required of them.
Do you have a desired website screen size?
The website size should be scalable, as we are using Open Journal Systems as a back-end. To see how it scales to fit screen sizes, please see their demonstration page: http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/demo/present/index...
How many pages (maximum of 5) do you need designed?
One page design. All other pages are simply variations of text and will fit within the base design. For an example of this please take a look at the demonstration of our back-end: http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/demo/present/index...
Target Audience
What is your industry?
Male Health (including psychological) and Studies
Describe the target audience for your website design
Any members of the public or academia interested in male health, issues and studies. Primarily the audience will be males involved in the education, health and mental health industries, but the journal is publicly available to all interested parties.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your website design
We would like to communicate that:
1) The journal is a modern, contemporary publication.
2) The journal has been created in response to a now well-documented decline in the overall well-being of males in postmodern culture.
3) We have gathered a highly respected, well qualified group of Australian, Canadian, European and American scholars to publish research, essays and opinion pieces on all aspects of the male experience.
How is your company different from your competitors?
We are the first international journal dedicated solely to Male Studies, Health and related issues.
Style and Concept
What website design styles do you like?
We want to present a modern, contemporary image. The design should be professional, attractive, artistic, and uncluttered. We will be incorporating mid-sized (up to 800x600) photographs and images into our articles.
We feel that this journal design is simple, but well executed: http://contemporarypsychotherapy.org/
We are, however, open to new ideas and happy to consider different design aesthetics.
What colors do you want to see in your website design?
As this is a new journal, we will establish a consistent colour scheme around the winning website design. As such, there are no existing palette restrictions.
The only requirement is that all text and links are easily readable and well presented.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your website design?
As this is a new journal, we will establish a consistent colour scheme around the winning website design. As such, there are no existing palette restrictions.
The only requirement is that all text and links are easily readable and well presented.
What adjectives should best describe your website design?
Modern, Contemporary, Professional, Attractive, artistic, and Uncluttered.
What content must be included in the website design?
The journal is being developed with assistance from the Australian Institute of Male Health and Studies. The logo has been uploaded with this project. Ideally, it should be featured somewhere inconspicuous but easily found on the journal web page.
Do you have additional requirements or links you want to share?
We are using Open Journal Systems as our back-end. To see how the system scales to size and handles pages layout, etc, please visit the OJS demonstration page here: http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/demo/present/index...
Please note that in the interest of flexibility and simplicity, we are willing to omit the right-most column of links/information as seen in the demonstration pages.
