The colors should be derived from the logo. You can take some liberties with secondary and tertiary colors, but they should all go together seamlessly.

2. Shippers of high value goods who wish to track their merchandise

These uses will find what they are looking for on the commercial site

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

other sites we like are:

omnilink.com good focus on law enforcement. Nicely apportioned left nav and info column vs size of main body text. Navigation easily incorporates third tier of nav selections which I think is good for long term growth. Want our nav to work this way. Conversion actions such as Request a No Risk Trial are nice graphic images, leading to a conversion landing page this is very nice! Overall, the site is perhaps a bit too fancy, however for our target market.

apple.com this is the type of blended informative and ecommerce site we need. It does not shout at you that it is an ecommerce site, but when you drilldown on a product you are offered the opportunity to buy. On the product detail page, the above the fold content is short and to the point, with well presented conversion buttons. Below the fold the additional content is very supportive. On most pages, the left hand column is well designed, incorporates room for adds and other conversion items. Main site has nice bottom nav structure, lets duplicate this.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

We do not want it to look like a mall for GPS products (see rmtracking.com), as these sites do not present high tech credibility, but in comparison to omnilink.com, it must allow users to complete the purchase cycle with an integrated ecommerce function.
