USA Hostels, Inc.
What do you do?
We provide comfortable, social, clean and fun accomodations to international travellers. We provide primarily dorm-style accomodation where guests pay for a bed in a room that may have up to 7 other travellers who they don't know. People who choose hostels for their accomodation stay with us because they are looking for a social atmosphere, a fun experience and a place that makes them feel comfortable and the other guests are in their age group and like-minded. They make this decision based on online customer ratings and word of mouth. We are not to be confused with hostels that are for long-term stays as the clientele is entirely different. We are truly for vacation lodging of 2 weeks or less. The average stay is 3 days.
Do you have a desired website screen size?
Please design for viewing at 960 wide x 700 high, but please keep in mind that we will be using Responsive Design techniques. This means that page will reconfigure itself based on the viewing devices (ie: tablet, phone, laptop). This makes the positioning of the booking function critical and we wish it to be placed in the upper left corner.
How many pages (maximum of 4) do you need designed?
3 - home page, interior page, blog page (we don't want a great departure for blog site, just that its in the same design style and can accomodate our current content)
What is your industry?
Describe the target audience for your website design
We are hospitality/travel. Our target audience is primarily international travellers, often on their first visit to the USA, often with little hostelling experience. They are mid 20s to mid 30s. Most of our guests speak English as a first language (australian, english, irish), followed by Germans, Koreans, French but we get guests from all over the world. They have chosen our hostel because they've read online reviews about our accomodations from other travellers from sites like hostelbookers.com and hostelworld.com and have chosen us because of our high ratings for atmosphere, character, staff, location, cleanliness and security. They are fashionable, have some $$ to spend for a pricer hostel (we are high priced in our category) and are demanding a more hotel-like quality facility but with the socialness of a hostel.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your website design
hip/place to be
How is your company different from your competitors?
unlike many of our American competitors we provide daily social activities very much like the European and Australian hostels do. Many American hostels just provide beds. We also are continually upgrading and modernizing our facilities and have been moving toward more of being considered a 'boutique' hostel, not because of the size, but because of the amenities.
Style and Concept
What website design styles do you like?
We do not want to influence direction, but we feel we are more 'retail' feeling than hotel feeling as most hotel sites are rather boring. We want to consider very creative ideas that would appeal to the target audience described above. However, form must follow function, meaning it must be easy for guests to navigate the site and not waste valuable time trying to figure out how to book a bed.
What colors do you want to see in your website design?
we are open to changes, we just want the colors to be appealing to a younger, hipper audience.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your website design?
we do not want a red/white/blue theme going. We do not want to go in a 'patriotic' direction. Please do not play off the USA in the name, meaning no stars and stripes, statues, etc
What adjectives should best describe your website design?
motivating (to book a bed)
What content must be included in the website design?
-- Logo may be changing, but use current logo for now (do not be bogged down by the colors as we may change those too). - Home page must feature all three hostels and needs to sell - this means it cannot simply be a stepping stone to the individual hostel pages but must explain, in text and visually, who we are and why to book with us. Please use the current home page statement (attached). Feel free to use any photos from our website (www.usahostels.com) or that appear on www.hostelworld.com or use any photos you feel are appropriate to describe the cities our hostels are in. Placeholders are also okay as the overall design is our main focus. Interior page can use greeking or be taken from our website for now.
Do you have additional requirements or links you want to share?
--The entire point of our site is to sell beds quickly. The average stay on our site is currently about 3 minutes so the design must motivate people to want to book with us quickly or we lose their attention. We strongly feel you should visit our website (www.usahostels.com), hostelworld (www.hostelworld.com) and other hostel websites if you are not familiar with our business. -- We 'd like some emphasis on the interior page to link to our facebook pages or to profile recent reviews and we'd like pictures to tell the story as much as the text. - there will also be a video featured on the interior page and we'd like space to post awards -- please use as much as the horizental space as possible so scrolling is minimized --- Also, heres a link to a site that uses Responsive Design to help with understanding how it works (http://www.tofinoaccommodation.com/)
