LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
We are a health information search site looking to provide high quality/revelant search results for the average person.
We feel like there is a lot of really good information available on the web, however too much irrelevant information clutters standard search site results and makes it difficult for the user to access the most useful information. Our algorithm allows only the most relevant and qualified health related results to be returned from trusted sources around the web.
We have three main types of content that our site provides:
1) Condition/Disease specific health guides
2) Expert articles/ Q&A
3) Web links
When a user types in a query: the search results page using our algorithm will:
match the user's query (through a relevancy meter indicator) with the most relevant internal health topics written by our staff. Additionally it will return 1) any of our articles 2) articles by our experts, and 3) external urls that contain related results. Some results may return thumbnails, pictures and or video, but not all.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We would like a logo and website design of 5 slides. The logo could be an owl or something more abstract. Or it can simply be an attractive font. The wireframe layout is not set in stone - if you think something belongs somewhere else (or if something is missing), we appreciate that input.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our target audience ranges from a small town mom who is trying to find some information about a skin rash that her child has developed and offer some remedies, to a senior citizen who is contemplating diffferent types of treatment options and wants learn about each option before/after they see their health care provider.
We want the website to be clean, authorative, trustworthy, easy to use, and professional looking.
We want the site to be borderline government agency looking with a modern timeless splash. We don't want too many colors (not serious enough)...but we don't want the color scheme to be too drab and dull either (yawn).
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
1) nps.gov (home page only):
pros: good use of colors (understated), clean and crispy, governmental yet polished, nice font sizes, simple & clean text headers (News, Events), no solid colored boxes.
cons: zero...this is a perfect site in our eyes. We never use the word 'perfect'.
2) mayoclinic.com:
pros: lots of white space, organized modular but not boxy (no rectangular box outlines), conservative splash of color
cons: font too small, a little dull, too gray - not enough text color contrast
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Must Haves:
1) Left/Right shadowed border with white main body (gives effect of raised page off of colored background) ...refer to nps.gov
2) Header Navigation Bar (horizontal) must have white text on colored background....refer to nps.gov
Don't want:
No tiny fonts
Wacky, rainbow color scheme
