American Bird Products, Inc.
What do you do?
We are a small, family-run company that makes two classic products for people who enjoy birds: The Audubon Bird Call, and the Soda Bottle Bird Feeder. The bird call is a classic simple birdwatchers tool/toy and was invented by my grandfather in 1947. The bird call creates realistic bird sounds when it is twisted. The bird feeder, which is more recent, is a cast zinc adapter which recycles a plastic soda bottle into a bird feeder. Our customers are people who: Like birds, like recycling, remember the bird call from their childhood, like high-quality handmade tools.
Do you have a desired website screen size?
Designers discretion - I don't mind a small site.
How many pages (maximum of 5) do you need designed?
2 - Main page and template - template to be used for online ordering, retailer search, product specific pages and general info. Either create one template that will work for these uses or specialized templates.
What is your industry?
Nature products, Music Products
Describe the target audience for your website design
Potential retail customers - nature lovers, gift buyers, both men and women, people who are interested in handmade quality items.
Potential wholesale customers - bookstores, nature stores, toy stores, music stores, promotional items etc.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your website design
We want to present our company as a simple, old-fashioned, high quality operation. We don't offer a whole catalog of products, but we make two of them really well. We would also like to emphasize our connection to the natural world/wildlife/bird sounds.
How is your company different from your competitors?
Our products are 100% Made in the USA and attention to detail is paramount. Our products are more expensive than some competitor's but they will work better and last a lifetime. Also, our bird call sounds better.
Style and Concept
What website design styles do you like?
A website in our industry that really appeals to me is
www.drollyankees.com - we don't need a huge site - just something that is enough for the products we make.
What colors do you want to see in your website design?
Please see attached color palette for hex keys. The main color of our product is red, but if that is used it should be as an accent color only. Blues browns and greens is the best theme for our products.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your website design?
please generally follow palette.
What adjectives should best describe your website design?
Natural, hand-made, high-quality, classic New England, musicality.
What content must be included in the website design?
Need nav bar (can be horiz or vert)with dropdown menu buttons "Home, Products, Support, Wholesale, About Us, and Buy Online" Need "Find Retailer" field. Need bottom bar with company name and address and Wholesaler login. I'd like to stick with a nature(or farm)/bird theme. If you use bird stock art please use native US Eastern Birds (I like bluebirds and barn swallows) Need prominent area to contain 2 placeholders for video or picture of product. Our products are not enough to carry the whole site so I don't want to have them dominate the design.
Do you have additional requirements or links you want to share?
Please note - American Bird Products is the name of the company, and has its own logos (see attached). One of our products, The Audubon Bird Call, has much stronger name recognition than the company name, and has its own logos. The bird feeder is an important product for us but it does not have its own logo or style. The site should make clear that our company's name is American Bird Products, and that our most famous and recognizable product is the Audubon Bird Call. Included in the available files are logos for company and product, color palette, packaging designs, product photos and a photo of the farm where the bird call was invented and manufactured for 50 years. Also included is a profile of the inventor of the bird call if you are interested in more background information.
