LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
We are a soon to be launched online art gallery, a high-end e-commerce, consumer website, displaying and selling original art paintings from a selected group of artists across the US.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
Our clean, elegant site needs a home page banner. This banner takes up the vast majority of the home page, residing below the horizontal top nav, 950 pixels wide x 325 pixels tall. It's primary purpose is to convey what we are about (high quality paintings from skilled artists for sale) and drive people into our search page where they can begin to explore our inventory. As a side note, we aim to take advantage of technology in a somewhat innovative way to help consumers find that perfect one of a kind painting. We don't want to shout "new and different", and maybe not reference it at all, but it may influence your design a little.
The banner may be a simple image, or may be modestly animated. I can imagine a few paintings of different styles within it. And text displayed a second or two after if animated. If animated, the entire animation would last no longer than a 1-3 seconds. There should be a dominant call to action, likely in the form of a Get Started button. Current text of the banner:
Art world, meet the Web.
Art lovers, rejoice.
ArtQuivers innovative search helps you find that perfect, yet elusive one-of-a-kind painting
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Online consumers with above average income, above average education (college degree and higher typically), relatively interested in the arts and culture.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Here are a few banners that are (mostly) similar size, some have a balance of text and images close to what we envision, some with an elegant display of images, all with a distinct call to action within...

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The feel of the banner needs to be understated and elegant. See attached home page placeholder (navigation and logo are set) as well as the sample "product page" for the general look and feel. (Note: the attached pages have placeholder buttons and icons and multiple states of tabs and buttons depressed, so ignore those details). The site consists of mostly greys and gradients of grey) and whites with occasional splash of red (see logo). Any vibrant colors from the site should come almost exclusively from the artwork iteself. So keep that in mind in the banner design. Background could be black though, but not necessarily.
