What do you do?
We are a non-profit looking to promote some of the local small businesses we work with including:
- Home services (ex. contractors, landscapers)
- Restaurants
- Real estate agents
Do the ad banners need to meet specific size requirements?
Please keep in mind that banner ads often have file size and animation requirements. Please try to keep the file size under 30 KB, and recognize there may in some cases be an animation time limit of 15 or 30 seconds. We will certainly do some optimizing on our end once we select the winner, but we would appreciate efforts/instructions on your part to keep the file size as small as possible.
Of course, if you have a great design that is over 30 KB, please submit it anyway. The file size and animation requirements are just something to think about as you design.
How many different size variations of the ad banner do you need designed?
We will need the banner ad in four sizes:
160x600
300x250
728x90
300x50 (for mobile)
The 4 sizes can re-use the same content, but the layout should be re-purposed to fit each size (for the 300x50 size, its OK to exclude some of the content due to the space constraints). Most of the small businesses we work with do not have a coherent design scheme, so we have no constraints on color schemes well probably end up creating different color schemes of the same ad design.
Target Audience
What is your industry?
See above.
Describe the target audience for your ad banner design
The purpose of the banner ad is to get viewers to click on the ad, which links them to a landing page on a website.
Ideally, the ad design should be generic enough that we can swap the text out and use it as a template to promote any of the small businesses we work with.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your ad banner design?
Values we want to emphasize are professionalism, excellence, and innovation
How is your company different from your competitors?
N/A
Style and Concept
What ad banner design styles do you like?
We like designs that are clean and slick. We have are open to any design. Some sites we like include:
www.brandclay.com
www.blastradius.com
www.videoegg.com
www.frogdesign.com
www.ideo.com
Designers are by no means required or encouraged to emulate these designs.
What colors do you want to see in your ad banner design?
We don't have any explicit color requirements. In fact, we encourage designers to come up with some interesting color schemes.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your ad banner design?
N/A
What adjectives should best describe your ad banner design?
See description above.
What content must be included in the ad banner design?
We are flexible to the elements used in the ad so long as it encourages users to click on the ad. Elements that you could include are:
- Organization Name or space for a logo
- Call-to-action text encouraging users to click on the ad
- Textual elements, ex.
(i) Client testimonials (up to 100 chars)
(ii) Description or promotions (up to 100 chars)100 character description of service being promoted
(iv) Tagline (up to 100 characters)
- Photos of our client businesses (feel free to use placeholder images in your design)
(v) Phone number and/or address (either full address or part o the address is fine)
The ads will be animated, so you can -- and probably should -- spread some of the elements (text/photos) throughout multiple slides, rather than squeezing everything into one frame.
We want to help promote our small businesses to their local communities. We plan to run the campaign on the websites of local newspapers.
Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?
For the deliverable, we are looking for an animated SWF ad. As an alternative, you can submit still snapshots of the ad and directions for any animation that may enhance the ad. We want good looking creatives.
