LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 company located in Kansas City, MO that provides FREE professional theatre productions of Shakespeare. The festival will be celebrating its 17th year this summer, June 16th July 5th, 2009 in Southmoreland Park. Thousands of people attend the festival's professional theatre production in the park as well as enjoy preshow entertainment such as show talks and puppet show. There are food and wine sales, drawing and raffle give-aways and souvenir sales. In addition, the festival serves hundreds of young people through a variety of education programs during the year throughout the Kansas City metro area. More information can be found online at www.kcshakes.org

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

The festival needs a t-shirt design for the 2009 season production of The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare. We are looking for a mono-color design, front and back. The t-shirt color can be determined by the designer (preferably not black). Incorporating a quote from the play is encouraged, but not necessary. The design might be used on additional merchandise (i.e. buttons and/or mugs).

Here is a very brief synopsis of the play The Merry Wives of Windsor:

Sir John Falstaff, a knight down on both luck and cash, hatches a scheme to raise funds. He will seduce Mistress Ford and Mistress Page in an attempt to get at their husband's money. Falstaff, however, has overestimated his ingenuity; the two women compare their letters, and - finding them identical - hatch a plan of their own to make a buffoon of the knight.

Quotes from the play can be used as inspiration on incorporated into the design -

"Wives may be merry, and yet honest too" Act IV, Scene 2

"O what a world of vile ill-favour'd faults

Looks handsome in three hundred pounds a year!" Act III, Scene 4

"In love the heavens themselves do guide the state; Money buys lands, and wives are sold by fate." Act V, Scene 5

"If I be served another trick, I'll have my brains ta'en out, and buttered, and give them to a dog for a new year's gift." Act III, Scene 5

"There is either liquor in his pate or money in his purse when he looks so merrily" Act II, Scene 1

"This is the short and the long of it" Act II, Scene 2

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Over 20,000 patrons attend the festival annually. Our audience attracts a great diversity of audience members from youth and teens to senior citizens. The festival is looking for a fresh, crisp and bold design with appeal to all ages.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We are looking for a design that captures the spirit and theme of this Shakespearean comedy. The design should be flexible to fit on a variety of t-shirt sizes, and be striking and have bold, clear print that can be seen from a small distance. Clear, readable font and crisp, clean design ideas are preferred.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

To be sure the design is compatible with our printer; designs should be created in AI (Adobe Illustrator version 10) and/or as a Vector PDF. Vector Art or CDR Image.

The design needs to be and include the following information:

(Organization Name) Heart of America Shakespeare Festival

(Play) The Merry Wives of Windsor

(Year) 2009
