Gina Giancola SAFE Foundation - Suicide Awareness For Everyone
What do you do?
Keep alive the spirit of Gina who lost her life to depression by promoting communications about suicide prevention to young adults. Encourage children to ask for help, break through stigma barriers, raise awareness and support understanding of suicide prevention among adults and children alike. The proceeds raised support a scholarship fund created in memory of Gina Giancola; we support Erika's Lighthouse (teaching piece) and Catholic Charities LOSS Program (supportive piece). Gina passed away 2 years ago at 15 years old; her high school class is graduating this June.

Describe the target audience for your illustration
The Community event draws 500-700 runners and walkers (children, teens, adults, families, friends of Gina). June 8, 2014 3rd annual 5K run, 3K walk, 100-yd Dash named Gina's Gallop, will take place at Arlington International Racetrack. Afterwards hang out and enjoy: Games, Petting Zoo, Horse Racing, Food, Live Music, Beer/Cigar/Bocce Ball. Gina's friends, the community and young adults have been impacted by Gina's presence and by her tragic death. Shock and disbelief. If something like this could happen "to Gina", it must have shook the lives of children who knew her. Gina's depression came on acutely. After one year Gina's depression became too unbearable. Supporters of the event know there are numbers of children and adults who suffer daily with depression. We want them to know they are not alone and there is help for them.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your illustration?
The 5K event is uplifting, fun, energetic for community/family/friends.
Goal: Inspire, Impact, Inform, Nurture
Style and Concept
What lillustration styles do you like?
Simple line horses are more in line with our brand (must we break through the silence with horses?). Future 5K event, Gina's Gallop, may not be at Arlington International. I'd like the race branding to remain consistent & "apply" to any venue. Horses have nothing to do with the SAFE Foundation.
Stigma Busting, Young Adults (teens), Encourage, Help, Raise Awareness & Support.
