Our application's functionality is best-in-class, but we need a catchy new web design! Please help!

Our software automatically aggregates and organizes research for investment firms across different applications and devices. They can also take notes directly through our web portal.

The pages we are looking to design are from our web-based portal. This is the site users log into to retrieve or search for their data.

Update 17-Oct-12 GMT
Thanks for participating. We would like to have a "What are you working on?" box, like Crowdspring_Home_1_1.JPG.

We have also seen some designers move the "My Company" section to the bottom of the page (scrolling across the bottom), which is another option. At the end of the day, we want as much attention as possible to be on the NOTES in the middle portion of the page. Everything else, such as filters (Calls, Meetings) should be more of an afterthought and subtle. Moving the "My Company" section allows you to extend the notes horizontally, all the way to the right edge of the's a nice look, and one to consider....but not a must have.

Also, we have seen some designers reduce the positive/negative/buy/sell/etc. options to a drop down with checkboxes, which saves space.

Because we want as much attention as possible on the note snapshots (they expand when you click on them to show full content of notes), we are very mindful of vertical spacing for other elements of the design. We don't want to waste too much space at the top of the page, so anything designers and do to tighten up the format is appreciated.
