Lightbank (www.lightbank.com), the venture fund behind Groupon and many other successful start-ups, is on the hunt for some crazy talented web designers who have somehow flown under our radar, either because they’re so gifted that they’re still in school, or they’re the worst self-promoters in history. From a pool of millions (or perhaps several dozen), we’ll select our absolute favorite and hand over $5,000 in cold hard cash. And if you happen to be from our home base in Chicago, we’ll throw in another $1,000.

Super! Why are you doing this? Just asking.

Because we’ve got tons of web sites to build and are always looking for talented people to make them look pretty and super easy to use.

That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever heard. How do I apply?

Great question. So everyone is on an equal playing field, each designer must submit a home page redesign through Crowdpsring for our friends over at i.c. stars, a Chicago nonprofit that trains future leaders in business and technology. They’ve cooked up this creative brief to provide you with some direction.

What if I don't win? That will suck.

All applicants, regardless of their placement in the competition, will also be considered for future Lightbank design projects, so don't fret and please include a link to your portfolio in your application. Please also include your location – anyone can win the competition but we are particularly excited at the prospect of finding one (or several) Chicago designers to work with for future opportunities.
