Business Info
Business Name
Glade Optics
What do you do?
Glade sells ski goggles primarily to 18-24 year olds. The goggles come in a variety of colors and are positioned as a "direct to consumer" brand that only sells online. We sell to skiers and snowboarders around the country who are looking for a "cool" looking goggles at a reasonable price.
What is the product designed to do?
These ski goggles act as standard ski goggles. They protect users from snow and glare.
List the size and weight requirement(s) for your product design
We are looking for a new goggle design that is cylindrical (not spherical) but still retains the wide lens for enhanced peripheral view. Weight is not important.
List all other important design requirements
We are really just looking for initial designs/sketches/renderings of a new model. We don't need technical specifications as we can hash that out with our supplier - we just need a design we can springboard from to get the process started. We'd like this model of goggles to show as little of the frame as possible - but retain the interchangeable lens and strap features. We are able to incorporate magnets to attach the frame to the lens and eliminate any view of frame when looking directly at the goggles, or use a clasp system similar to what we have now. We are open to either magnet or clasps here as options.
Will this product need to be certified?
CE and FDA but we can handle all of that.
Target Audience
What is your industry?
Retailing
Describe the end users of your product design
These are skiers and snowboarders who are looking for a pair of goggles that look and feel like something they might buy from Oakley, Smith, Spy, Anon, POC, etc. They are 18-24 males and females who ski 5-15 days a year but have 9-5 jobs during the week. "Weekend Warrior" is a term we use to describe these people.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your product design?
1) Uniqueness. So many goggle products out there look the same - we want to differentiate our brand through a pair of goggles that is easily identifiable to our brand.
2) Low maintenance. We are not an outlandish brand with outrageous styles - we'd like something understated but different.
3) Cutting edge and in style. We want our customers to know they are getting the best goggle technology available and goggle styles that are "in" at the moment.
What products will this new product compete with?
Smith - I/O
Oakley - Flight Deck
Anon - M2 or M3
Electric - Electrolite
What is your target retail price?
$85

On the mountain, again, not super important as we can handle all the technical specifications and just need a shape to springboard from.
