What do you do?

Work with clients on new products. In this case our client is interested in designing a new binder/notebook for sale at office supply stores and mass retailers for middle and high-school students.

What is the product designed to do?

The school binder/notebook category is moving towards simpler and more durable designs that deliver improved functionality. Avery, our client, wants to see what binder, notebook, divider and accessory designs you can come up with that take the next step in this direction.

List the size and weight requirement(s) for your product design

Slightly larger than 8.5 x 11 to hold loose sheets of paper and the space for the binder spine

List all other important design requirements

Desired qualities in your submission:
(a) Durability: the design must look (and be) durable enough to last the entire school year. (b) Physical Design: Simplicity, less is more. A typical 3 ring system is okay, but they often break down and need to be replaced before the end of the school year. Try looking beyond the traditional system. Is there any way to provide the same functionality in a simpler, more durable, cheaper to manufacture, or easier to use, fashion?

Will this product need to be certified?
