Theatrical Comedy Poster: Ken Richters as "Mark Twain On Tour"
What ido you do?
Ken Richters appears on stage as a 70 year old Mark Twain On Tour, recreating one of the authors last lecture tours. The production is a one-man show, and presented as a public lecture (with a single-pedestal podium, comfortable chair & end table). A couple of Mark Twains quotes (dont use quotes on poster):
Go to Heaven for the climate and Hell for the company.
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But then I repeat myself.

Describe the target audience for your print design.
Mark Twain On Tour is a touring one-man theatrical production a 2 Hour COMEDY (with 20 minute intermission) whos primary audience is the general theater-going audience age 20-70.
The production is presented at major performing arts centers (and sometimes as part of a universitys Broadway Series) throughout the world -- almost always at each venue for one-night only. We dont necessarily want to use One Night Only (or can be turned on/off without hurting the design) but are definitely focused on having the poster communicating that Special excitement!
What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your print design?
1. Critically-Acclaimed Theatrical Production
2. Intelligent Comedy
3. Must See Hit!
4. Not Your Grandfather's Mark Twain Production
Style and Concept
What print design styles do you like?
We have assembled a page of sample Broadway posters/logo that might help in your creative process: http://www.flashfeeder.info/logos.htm
Just as most movie posters seem easily recognizable as being an advertisement for a motion picture, most of the samples poster/logos on this page, at least to our eye, are clearly designed for Broadway shows.
What colors do you want to see in your print design?
Open to all
What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?
No BRIGHT florescent colors
How will the print design be used?
Variations on the poster design will also be used as flyers, advertisements, program cover, etc. so will need to be strong enough to reduce the main portion of the overall design for smaller than original media. Very Important: The production needs an strong, professional (even slick) Identity -- we want to pull the Actor, Title, and Tag Line treatment from the poster and incorporate it as a header on the productions website, and as letterhead/collateral page logo.
The productions website (will be redesigned to reflect new poster elements so please dont design poster to reflect old website design) has a fair amount of background information on the show, including performance video, additional reviews, hi-resolution images that can be incorporated, etc. at http://www.marktwainontour.com
What content must be included in the print design?
(producer) International Production Company presents
(tour) 30th Anniversary Tour
(review) "A Comedy Triumph" - Times of London
(actor) Ken Richters
(title) Mark Twain On Tour
(tagline) The Life of God's Fool in Two Acts
(alternate tagline, sometimes billed as) Americas First Stand-Up Comedian!
(local info) (area for local presenter information, usually includes, show date and time, venue/theater, and local box office phone or local website)

Other information that may be useful to you when creating your designs:
Production website: http://www.marktwainontour.com
The website has more materials, including performance videos, that can be reviewed.
Please Note: The website design is a few years old and is going to be updated around the new logo. We like the possibility of occasionally using the logo in reverse, but find it too restricting have it only set in reverse.
Mark Twain (one of Americas most celebrated authors) was a superstar on tour -- traveling throughout the world as a highly-paid and in-demand humorist. He would talk about God, politicians, corruption, Heaven and Hell, smoking, sex he was fearless in his opinions and, sometimes, very politically incorrect.
Mark Twain lectures were always very funny, extremely witty, and occasionally touching.

Some of Twains quotes include:
Go to Heaven for the climate and Hell for the company.
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But then I repeat myself.
The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not.

The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.
