Who are your readers?
This book is for ages 12+. It is for fans of classic fantasy such as the Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. The book features 2 male main characters and 1 female who are all highly likeable and relatable in their own way. Young males will probably mostly read the book because of the action and "sword fighting/jousting," but there is also somewhat of a love triangle in the book between the characters which will appeal to girls.
NOTE: In addition to the $350.00 I will also post the winning artist's name in the book along with their website if wanted. It will go in the acknowledgements section. ALSO: The only reason I am not assuring the project (which means I can request a refund from crowdspring) is because this is my first time using this website and I want to make sure I get at least twenty-thirty unique submissions. I don't want to be forced to pay and decide between 5 submissions I don't like. But from browsing other cover designs there are always a lot of submissions, so I will 99.9% pay the $350.00 and am excited to see what everyone comes up with.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your readers with this design?
The cover needs to be eye catching and captivating. It will be a image of a jouster charging forward on his horse, which shows action and also tells the reader it is somewhat of a medieval story.
This will be HANDDRAWN OR DIGITAL ART and as realistic as possible, but I don't want stock or vector images or real life jousting pictures.
Style and Content
What colors do you want to see in your design?
The colors are mainly red for the jouster's armor, blue for the horse's armor, and brown for the horse's fur. More details on color are in the attachment. The background of the book is optional. In my mind, I was picturing a black background, with white words or golden words (title, author's name, spine, synopsis) but I'm open to anything that compliments the jousting image.
I wanted to have the image be splatter art, like the madden videogame covers, but I think its something that the artist needs to be professional experienced with. Splatter art (in my mind) is more visually captivating. In one of the Attachments, I included a picture of the splatter artist who I wanted to make the cover, but she had a family crisis. But if splatter art is something you can do, and it is done right, that may set you apart from the rest of the canidates. However, I am not expecting it since it is not a common skillset because it requires a special computer program.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your design?
The colors on the cover have to match the description in the book. I want the cover to be accurate with the book's details of the joust. The first two chapters of the book are included in an attachment which cover the details of the joust.
Describe the style(s) you like (traditional, modern, etc.)
I just want the picture to look realistic and not cartoonish. The jouster's head will be under his helmet, so the details of a face will not need to be drawn on him, only the horse (which is slightly armored on his head).
What content must be included in your design?
The back cover text - synopsis (entices reader to buy book) will need to be included, but this is already written and would just need to be added. Also the book name/author on the front cover and spine. Again, these things are all detailed in the attachment to make my thoughts easy for the artist to understand.
