LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Don't just stand there looking at it, participate! FIGMENT is a new kind of arts festival. It's a forum for participatory and interactive art, created by emerging and established artists, across disciplines. Think Burning Man on the east coast, or the Mermaid Parade. We're all about big experiences. Breaking down the barriers between artist and observer. Large-scale, interactive sculptures. Costuming. Things to see and play with.
In 2009 (FIGMENTs third year), the event on NYCs Governors Island had over 13,000 participants, over 400 works of interactive art, and a volunteer team of over 300. In addition, FIGMENT created a season-long exhibition on the island of 16 large-scale interactive sculptures and an artist-designed 18-hole minigolf course.
In 2010, FIGMENT will be holding events in New York (on June 11-13) and for the first time, in Boston (on June 5). We'll also be hosting several summer-long projects on Governors Island, including an architectural pavilion, a sculpture garden with large-scale sculptures, and a brand new artist-designed minigolf course.
All of our events and exhibitions are completely free and open to the public. FIGMENT is a project of Action Arts League, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. All of our funding comes from grants and donations.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
A poster that captures the spirit and energy of the event, and drives people to participate and attend in 2010.
This design will later be adapted for a postcard, other communication efforts, the volunteer t-shirts, etc. So think big! You have the potential to effect the branding of the entire event.
* We will need two versions one for NY's Governors Island, and a
second for Boston. Both posters will include the dates and locations
for Boston & NY, but please swap the emphasis on them them (i.e. The
NYC location and dates will be bigger and the Boston info smaller on
the NY poster, and then vice-versa)
* Full color
* Posters will be printed on a standard color printer, so the design should not be full-bleed.
Our relevant Branding elements:
* All volunteers at the event wear orange t-shirts, so orange is a prominent color.
* The website has recently been redesigned (it's designed new each year)
* Logo font is Gotham

* Everyone! We strive to be a totally inclusive arts event focusing on participation
* Artists in New York City and Boston
* Creative people and people interested in the arts
* Alternative/street arts/performance art enthusiasts and artists
* Families with children
* Minority and immigrant populations in New York and Boston
* Arts patrons

We really admire the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Creative Time, Burning Man, the Dumbo Arts Festival,and MoMA. Our poster design from last year (attached) did a great job of capturing our event, but we would like to create something new for 2010.
