The Carter Burden Center for the Aging, Inc. is a nonprofit agency established in 1971 to promote the well being of seniors 60 and older through a continuum of services, advocacy and volunteer programs oriented to individual, family and community needs. We are dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to live safely and with dignity.

Describe the target audience for your print design

The Carter Burden Center is hosting a premier fundraising event. Our annual Fall Benefit is attended by board members, business leaders and other important members of the New York community.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?

This year, our 43rd Anniversary Gala (Banking on Aging: Helping to Secure the Future) will honor Michael McLaughlin, US Country Head, Macquarie Group with the 2014 Carter Burden Business Leadership Award.

With a 160% increase in Americans over age 65 by the year 2040, the call to support the services that enhance the well-being of older adults is a prudent investment choice. The face of aging is expanding to include a 62 year old who is not considering retirement, a 92 year old volunteer and an 84 year old home bound senior. The Carter Burden Center is meeting the needs of this changing face of aging through innovative programming and a persistent commitment to dignity.

Macquarie Bank has an office building with architecture featuring a unique lattice design (easily found with a Google image search of Macquarie Bank, and attached below). The design of this building evokes structure, strength, security and institutional aspects that the Carter Burden Center works to endow in our aging community every day. Event design elements should blend the literal ideas of Banking on Aging with an abstraction of this structure.

Style and Concept

What print design styles do you like?

Both the Carter Burden Center for the Aging and Macquarie Bank are forward-thinking establishments. Designs should be modern/contemporary and evoke strength, resilience and a sense of community. The organization is particularly drawn to designs that show movement.

What colors do you want to see in your print design?

The Carter Burden Center's logo colors are red (4,100, 84, 1) and black, but logo art does not need to be incorporated into event collateral design. Past events have used all manners of design elements.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?

We prefer bright eye-catching color and would not like to see muted tones.

What adjectives should best describe your print design?

Design should be modern/contemporary, elegant (fitting of a high end fundraising event), and evoke strength and resilience

How will you use the print design?

The Carter Burden Center seeks an eye-catching poster with design elements (imagery, text styles, color palette) from which we can build other collateral for a premier fundraising event in New York City. We would require that along with your design, you share with us InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator files. Please use only standard font styles available for most operating systems. Optimal designs will translate to eventual invitation, web banners, and pieces of varying layout and dimension.
