Author's Name

Tony Bouza

This book is an account of the case experiences and outlook of the author, who spent 40 years rising through all ranks in the New York Police Department and ended his police career as Police Chief of a major U.S. City. He then became an expert witness on behalf of people suing the police for harm - testifying on police practices, procedures and programs in cases involving brutality, false arrest, and other acts of police wrong doing.

In this book, Bouza exposes the Blue Code of Silence which causes the police to lie when confronted with their bad acts, and prevents justice and the wronging of rights on behalf of the victims. His work as expert, told in jaw dropping case stories, was to even the field, so that the police lies and misrepresentations would not automatically be believed because of the power of their position and uniform. Instead, the victims have a chance to find justice under the law for the polices wrong acts.

As Bouza says in his Prologue I am an unapologetic supporter of the use of police violence, even lethal force, but it has to be guided by the law, the standards of reasonableness, and the U.S. Constitution.

Target Audience

Who are your readers?

There are several audiences for this book:
1. The general public - anyone who is interested in police stories, and the inside scoop / expose. People who watch police shows and movies, too.
2. Lawyers and law students who want to learn more about this field so they can win case against the police.
3. Students in criminal justice and political science - undergraduates, graduates
4. Anyone concerned about justice, the law, and policy

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your readers with this design?

Id like to juxtapose the notion of justice with the notion of police wrongdoing, visually.

Id like the design to be bold and dramatic since this is a very bold, dramatic book.

One idea is to have Justice represented by the Scales of Justice or Lady Justice

With the police wrongdoing represented by a police badge or police hat possibly fractured in two so it has a jagged break in it.

Or the scales of justice could have the judges gavel (hammer-like) on one side, and the policemans hat or badge on the other, showing that justice and the police are not always balanced.

Ill include a link to a shutterstock.com lightbox, with some visual examples. Ill purchase images once the design is awarded and the choices clear:

Purple, Pink,

Describe the style(s) you like (traditional, modern, etc.)
