What do you do?

I'm producing a six-dvd set entitled Media on the Brain. It's religious/spiritual and scientific material from a Christian point of view. Warning people against the neurological and spiritual dangers of mainly entertainment media (TV/Movies, advertising industry, rock/rap music industry, gaming, Hollywood, pornography, televised sports), but even a bit on unhealthy/excessive uses of social networking and text communication.

Exactly sized to the dimensions of a dvd jacket (the one slip of thick paper that slides down behind the plastic of the dvd case). Standard dvd case sized (these days you can fit 6 dvds in one of those cases).

Describe the target audience for your print design

Primarily Christians. Secondarily, anybody who is concerned about excessive media consumption, especially entertainment media.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?

We have entertainment media "on the brain," meaning it's our obsession.
Entertainment media has negative neurological consequences - actually affects the brain.
There is a hidden or not-so-hidden spiritual reality in the entertainment industries, that you probably don't want as an influence in your life.

Style and Concept

What print design styles do you like?

Hard to say. I want people to see it on the shelf of our Christian bookstores where it's placed, and be drawn to pick it up. I do have quite a bit of text you'll add to the image, so keep that in mind.

What colors do you want to see in your print design?

Whatever grabs attention without looking cheezy or too much like a sales pitch.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?

None come to mind.

What adjectives should best describe your print design?

The dvds contain information that's pretty "edgy" or even "shocking" at times. Though I don't want to scare people with the dvd cover.

How will you use the print design?

DVD jacket.

What content must be included in the print design?

I'd love to see some imagery that communicates some of the content before reading the dvd jacket. For example, an all-seeing eye, Aleister Crowley, musical instruments or other imagery from the popular music industry, tv/movie/hollywood imagery, gaming imagery, maybe facebook or texting imagery, maybe professional sports imagery. A brain or head would probably be appropriate, since it's called "media on the brain." Perhaps something scientific or data looking to bring it out of the realm of the alarmist; much of the seminar is science-based.
