What do you do?

What is your industry?
Patent research and patent writing
Describe the target audience for your print design
patent agents, engineers, inventors, creative tinkerers, libraries, schools
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?
This is a cool book showcasing over 200 years of the best black-and-white line-art patent drawings ever created. This is a coffee-table style book, suitable for display in patent attorney lobbies, engineering schools and libraries, and as gifts to inventors and creative tinkerers. I want to convey that this is an elegant book, showing some of the most elegant patent drawings in the almost 8,000,000 patents issued since the 1790's.
Style and Concept
What print design styles do you like?
Elegance, but not boring. Classy, yet interesting. I want people to pick-up this book because of the interesting cover design, which should show several to many of the patents used in the book.
What colors do you want to see in your print design?
It's a black and white book, so the only chance for the use of color will be on the cover. We don't want to imply that the book is a color book (since patent illustrations are in black and white), but I'll leave how you handle this up to you.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?
What adjectives should best describe your print design?
Elegance, but not boring. Classy, yet interesting. Intricate and mechanical.
How will you use the print design?
front and back cover for an 8.5" x 11" coffee table book (soft cover for now).
What content must be included in the print design?
The text is provided in the zip file attached. Many of the patents used in the book are also included, so you can use the artwork from these patents. I've also included a picture of me with my family, but you should crop-out my family and maybe flip my image horizontally (as in the sample cover design that I've also submitted, which is my brother's first attempt at a book cover... which I like, but I just don't know if it's optimal). Also, the back cover needs a white space in the bottom right for the bar code, as well as some areas for 4 or 5 endorsements (which I don't have yet but will by the time it's published).
