What do you do?
How many pages of print design do you need?
1-2 (front and back cover)
List the size requirement(s) for your print design
This is flexible at this point; book is being designed. Could range from a small gift book size (3"Wx5"H) to the size of a small children's picture book (approx 8" square) but no bigger. Design is most important so that the book is eye-catching and appears to the gift/tourist market.
What is your industry?
Describe the target audience for your print design
Main purchasers of this will be readers of inspiration books and tourists in Hawaii who purchase this as a gift/souvenir/beach read.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?
Fun, connection, reverence for each other and the planet. The title of the book is Ten Things I Learned Living on an Island. The concept is that life on an island is a lot like living on the planet right now-- lots of mixed people, surounded by hostile environment (ocean or space, depending) trying to get along, survive and thrive. The book contains simple messages like, "we are all connected" and " we can't bury our trash forever." It is simple, near-common-sense wisdom for humanity that has been gleaned from the lessons learned living on Kauai.
Unedited intro is attached for a feel of the book. Please consider this proprietary at this point, on the honor system
Style and Concept
What print design styles do you like?
I have had one vision-- similar to something like the popular cover of The Little Prince but with an island very obviously on a planet that looks like Earth. This is just one idea, though, and I am open to the contributions of the artists, even those outside the box. It should definitely be a graphic design and not just the title of the book. I do picture it as more graphic (cartoon-ey) rather than pictorial but am open to see what the designers bring to the project.
What colors do you want to see in your print design?
Depends on vision of artist-- anything from muted beach colors to full spectrum of rainbow.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?
N/A; trust the designers.
What adjectives should best describe your print design?
Eye-catching, relevant, attractive, heartfelt
How will you use the print design?
cover of book, both in e-book and hard copy publishing
What content must be included in the print design?
Title "Ten Things I Learned Living On An Island"
"by Jason Blake"
book spine with made-up publisher name for now; publisher not currently disclosed
Back cover is optional; up to the artist at this point if relevant and adds to the overall design
