LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
We're a small independent publishing company that produces "cozy" or light-hearted mysteries.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
A design for a book cover for our upcoming new mystery--"Sounds of Murder" by Patricia Rockwell. The cover should reflect the story while enticing readers to buy the book. Here's the story. An elegant, middle-aged, female faculty member in the Psychology Department at a small, Southern university is found strangled--the cord from a set of headphones around her neck--in the department's computer lab. Her colleague, Pamela Barnes, an acoustics expert, discovers that a recording was accidentally made of the murder, so she determines to use her knowledge of acoustics to find the killer.
The main image of this book--and all Pamela Barnes' mysteries to come--is that of the acoustic wave--either realistic or abstract. Other possible elements that designers might want to use could be the victim, sitting at the computer with the cord from the headphones wrapped around her neck, a computer screen, and/or various campus images.
We are open to any style--graphic, line drawing, painted, photographic, or a combination.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Adult readers of "cozy" mysteries (mostly women, but we don't want to antagonize male readers).
WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:
Check out any "cozy" mystery on www.cozy-mystery.com. We especially like simple designs that have some element of symbolism and/or irony. As cozies are light reading, we tend to like bright, light colors rather than dark or earthy colors, but we don't mind some "blood" red and "deathly" black now and then.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
title: "Sounds of Murder"
author: "Patricia Rockwell"
sub-title: "A Pamela Barnes acoustic mystery"
image: an acoustic wave (either foreground or background. In the Upload files section below, we have uploaded a sample of an acoustic wave for your reference. We don't expect you to use this actual wave image. Waves can be any color. We just uploaded this wave to show you the general shape.)
