The Write Skills Inc.
What do you do?
Book Publisher, The cover is for an informational book to help parents guide their high school aged children towards academic success and away from the big mistakes that parents often make. The theme is that the book will provide parents with a navigational tool (GPS) to lead them with clear instructions towards the destination (academic success). It is NOT a book about getting into a good college. It is about helping kids do well in high school.
How many pages of print design do you need?
1 page for the front cover
List the size requirement(s) for your print design
7.5 inches wide x 9.25 inches tall. CMYK 300 ppi
What is your industry?
informational text for parents who care about their children's academic success
Describe the target audience for your print design
proactive, concerned parents of children who will soon be entering high school or are already in high school - the text is written to appeal to parents of all students (not just students who are going to go on to four-year universities). We want the book to appeal to parents who might not have picked up any other parenting book ever before.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?
easy to comprehend, fun, packed with useful information
Style and Concept
What print design styles do you like?
cartoonish (www.cartoonsmart.com), web 2.0 look ("shiny button" style), 3-D illustrations, a little "cutesy" to appeal to moms, scrapbook styled (there are post-it notes and little text box features within the text to make it look like a bulletin board)
What colors do you want to see in your print design?
Although the concept (see attached file) is "techie," we don't want the colors to be techie. We want the colors to be bright, cheerful, and appealing.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?
avoid red (red relates to a teacher's red pen and we're trying to keep it positive and fun)
What adjectives should best describe your print design?
cute, witty, colorful, fun concept, straightforward
How will you use the print design?
This is going to be the front cover of the book in all of its forms. Cover image elements may be used to represent book on websites, social networking sites, and in marketing materials.
What content must be included in the print design?
We envision the cover to resemble an actual gps hand held device with full bleed, the device goes all the way to the edge so when you are holding the printed book, its like holding a gps. Keep in mind we want the design to be colorful and fun, not your typical gray and black.
the title and subtitle:
High School GPS: Help Your Child Navigate to Academic Success
see attached psd file for layout example.
Title at the top. High School GPS is to look like it is part of the device.
The screen will take up the majority of the space and is to include the subtitle as the path to the destination 'academic success'.
Room under the screen is needed for additional device buttons (help it look like a gps) and also the book's author, Jessie H.G. Metzger
