This is a non-fiction book about the history of the Auburn University football program, focusing on 7 seasons that could be claimed a national championships. Much of the book is about 3 seasons during the 1910's, when football was played with old leather helmets, canvas pants, jerseys without numbers, and little padding. The cover art I am looking for is an old-fashioned color illustration that looks like an game program from that era of the 1920's.

Who are your readers?
My readers would be college football fans of all ages, teens to 80's. These would primarily be men.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your readers with this design?
The minimal protective gear that football was played with in the 1910's. That the Auburn team shown on the cover was dominant over its opponent. A sense of excitement from the action being shown
Style and Content
What colors do you want to see in your design?
The design is somewhat controlled in what colors would be used. See discussion of what content must be included.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your design?
The design is somewhat controlled in what colors would be used/not used. See discussion of what content must be included.
Describe the style(s) you like (traditional, modern, etc.)
The style would be that used in the 1910's and 1920's for the cover art for a football program. Please go to www.historicfootball posters.com and look at the following examples of old football game program covers shown on that web site. Harvard (Yale game 1927); Illinois (Michigan game 1927); Southern California (Notre Dame game 1926); Oklahoma (Nebraska game 1930); Penn State (Pitt game 1927); Alabama (Washington game 1926). The winning design will have an action scene and style similar to these examples.
What content must be included in your design?
The design is somewhat controlled in what colors would be used. I want the cover to show two teams (just a few players from each) in action during a football play. The Auburn team would have the football and be in brown leather helmets, lighter brown canvas pants, and a navy blue jersey, with some orange horizontal stripes on the sleeves, blue socks, black shoes, while the opposing team would be dressed the same except for red jerseys and black socks. The players do NOT have numbers on their jerseys. Please also note that the helmets did not look like those worn today. It is important to review the samples listed above.
