Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Author's Name

Heidi Holvoet

The book is a practical guide for parents to help their baby learn how to self soothe to sleep, i.e. go to sleep independently. This will improve baby's sleeping through the night.

In the book, parents are taken through a 3-step program and then use the proposed techniques (techniques developed by the author). The techniques are gentle (no-tears i.e. no harsh crying it out methods) yet efficient.

Who are your readers?

Female, mother
* Is between 20 and 40 years old
* Has had a baby recently, baby is now between 0 and 3 years old
* Lives in the United States
* Is tired (sleep deprived!)
* Wants solution to sleep problem (soon)

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your readers with this design?

1. That the techniques in the book will work to improve their baby's self soothing skills
2. That the improved self soothing will improve their baby's sleep, happiness and health
3. That this book is different (better) from the so many baby sleep books out there

What colors do you want to see in your design?

Designer's choice, just in agreement with the style requirements described below

What colors do you NOT want to see in your design?

Describe the style(s) you like (traditional, modern, etc.)

The style must be in line with being a modern baby sleep book (so readers instantly recognize it as something that will help their baby sleep) but at the same time stand out from the many baby sleep books out there.

The current cover for this book stands out by color and design but is not well enough instantly recognized as a baby sleep book. That current cover can be seen in the attached images.

This book is part of a series. The current book covers of these two other books are also attached.

This is not for a printed book but a KINDLE e-book cover so the design must be suited for that.

What content must be included in your design?

Title: No-Tears Self Soothing

* Author name: Heidi Holvoet

* Subtitle by designer's choice (i.e. only required if it does not harm the design): Effective baby sleep techniques for settling well and sleeping through the night

NOTE: Please leave space for a 2" by 1.2" white box in the lower right-hand corner of the book's back cover for the ISBN barcode. Images or text in the barcode location will be covered when the book is printed. Make sure you don't have any important elements where the barcode will be placed. Visit CreateSpace for more tips on book cover sizing and requirements.

Brief updates

By HeidiHolvoet on 26-Sep-13 7:14 a.m. GMT
Remark: If using an image of a sleeping baby, that baby should be lying on the back, not on side or tummy.
By HeidiHolvoet on 26-Sep-13 7:17 a.m. GMT
This cover is meant for a KINDLE edition so I do not need a spine and back cover design.

Just a high-res image of 1563x2500 pixels.
By HeidiHolvoet on 26-Sep-13 7:27 p.m. GMT
Please note that the words "self soothing" are more important then the words "no tears".

And everything must be highly readable in a thumbnail so the potential reader knows immediately what the book is about (which is baby will learn to self soothe to sleep, without needing to cry)
By HeidiHolvoet on 27-Sep-13 7:34 a.m. GMT
Important! IF using a picture of a baby, please do not use stock photography that has been downloaded lots of times, we don't want an image on this cover that has been used by other books.
By HeidiHolvoet on 3-Oct-13 8:50 a.m. GMT
Any baby image you use, please ensure that:

- the baby is between 4 and 9 months old
- is clearly lying on his/her back
- is not in a strange, twisted position
- is not wearing a hat
- is asleep
