Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

What do you do?

I am a "Manufacturer's Rep" for a company that produces industrial valves. This means I only get paid when I make a sale, so the marketing materials I have must be great. Since I'm self-employed, I'm spending my own money on this project and hope the risk help me out in the long-term. The marketing materials you produce (at least the look/feel) will replace the inferior ones I recieve for free. I've heard you have to spend money to make money, so here it goes...

The existing literature I have been given leaves lots to be desired. It's clear it was produced by engineers, and I need something that looks more professional to match my competition.

I've been given access to the source InDesign files from their existing brochure, and I'm tasking you to provide a cleaner, fresher, more attractive look/feel for the same brochure. You should be able to grab source files from the attached PDF.

I would like the cover to pop--meaning it looks incredible sitting on top of someone's desk. This does not mean it should be bright yellow with lots of primary colors.

How many pages of print design do you need?

I need the outside cover + the 2 different inside pages (product page vs non product page)

List the size requirement(s) for your print design

8.5 x 11

What is your industry?

Describe the target audience for your print design

Most of these brochures will be distributed to a primarily male industry, filled with engineers, and technical backgrounds.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?

High quality products
Global company

What print design styles do you like?

Contemporary, clean look. Good use of whitespace. Lots of text, especially charts and technical information, so the layout must be easy to read.

What colors do you want to see in your print design?

my logo is black w/ orange as the secondary color, so perhaps a selective use of orange would tie things together. The brand I represent has a black/gray logo with red, so red could/should be used as well.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?

no orange backgrounds. must be subtle.

What adjectives should best describe your print design?

clean, fresh, modern, creative

How will you use the print design?

From this, we will adapt it to other marketing projects (ie- other brochures) I use in the future

What content must be included in the print design?

It is not necessary to include the company name/address in the footer and the red header portion on the top (which states what product line/section you're looking it) could use improvements

I need a cover which is impactful and showcases the products (valves) as well as the brand and my rep company (SVG).

I need 2 inside page samples, one with products, and one without. For the product page, use content from PR-7, and for the non-product page, use page PR-2 or PR-3

Brief updates

By svg on 25-Jun-13 2:08 p.m. GMT
Based on initial designs, I have the following additional guidelines:
* no black background. Looks dark and uninviting.
* no solid white background. Looks dull. Perhaps texture or design elements so it doesn't look too plain.

* Cover should showcase a variety of valves (to illustrate the range of manufacturing). I will not be focusing on which valves you showcase, so don't worry about that. I'll be replacing them with others we have access to.

Thank you to everyone for your participation and assistance with this project. I have received requests to extend the deadline, as well as this being a short week with July 4th (I wont have much time to review and provide feedback to you all), I've decided to give myself (and you) one additional week. I will have time this weekend to review and will award the decision next Monday.
