What do you do?
Gentell makes wound and skin care products that are used in nursing homes, hospitals and wound care centers.
How many sides of the package require graphics design?
1 side (the front)
List the size requirement(s) for your package graphics design
Standard sized 4 ounce tube about 2.5" wide across the top. The printable graphic area on one side is about 62mm wide and 138mm tall. See the illustration here: http://gentell.com/Products/Shield&Prote...
Also see the attached package graphics: Shield&ProtectFlatGraphics.jpg
Note that any text close to the edge of the flat graphics will curl around the filled tube and become illegible.
What is your industry?
This product is most often used in nursing homes for patients with incontinence, and is also used in hospitals and for home health care.
Describe the target audience for your package graphics
Most of the patients who use this product are female and older than 70 years old. Most of the nurses who apply this product are female. Incontinence creams protect skin from urine and feces. For comparison to a similar market, see the adult diaper business.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your package graphics design?
1. You will feel happier when you use this product. It soothes, heals and, in the AF version, fights infection.
2. This product is easy to apply.
3. This product is easily distinguished from competition and from similar Gentell products. For instance, we sell two versions of this product: Shield & Protect and Shield & Protect Anti-Fungal. Note that, in the current packaging, the AF (anti-fungal) falls off the right side of the package; the package needs a spot that easily identifies one of several versions.
Style and Concept
What package graphics design styles do you like?
In an informal survey of leading consumer tubes, we found that women liked the Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Scrub and the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. (For an image of consumer "tubes," see one of our attached files.) Generally, the tubes display with the cap down and the crimped end upward.
What colors do you want to see in your package graphics design?
The Gentell Logo Blue Color is Pantone 307 for printing or HTML #0078AB for screen. We want the wave logo and Gentell name to be clearly visible toward the top of the tube. We are open to interpretation of the wave. In the "old" packaging, the wave moves left; we are changing to a wave rolling right to convey forward motion. IMPORTANT: Shield & Protect comes in two versions: standard and AntiFungal. Our customers have learned to look for the regular in purple and the AntiFungal in pink. See attached art.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your package graphics design?
Any colors are acceptable. Of course, a predominance of colors that connote blood, sickness or alarm would not be effective in this context.
What adjectives should best describe your package graphics design?
Eye-catching, upbeat, new, friendly, soothing. Our company is growing through new products and new technology. We want our packaging to help convey the idea that something important is happening at Gentell. We also want the packaging to make our customers feel better and to make them feel confident and comfortable with our products.
