Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

Icely Done

What do you do?

We are London based alcoholic drinks brand creating innovative and nostalgic packaged cocktails using the best ingredients we can lay our hands on. Our first product is our frozen alcoholic ice lolly seen here: http://www.icelydone.com/

How many sides of the package require graphics design?

Two. Although the back will mostly list all the mandatory information required by law (to be provided by us)

List the size requirement(s) for your package graphics design

Our packaging is 50mm wide and 180mm in length. A detailed PDF showing our CURRENT artwork and the dimensions is included as part of our materials. This is the framework that any potential new design will use.

What is your industry?

Food and Beverage

Describe the target audience for your package graphics

18-30 year olds predominantly. We mainly sell at events (weddings, pop up food & drinks markets). Music festivals are a huge market for us and here, we are able to sell to a young, cool, fun and adventurous crowd. On occasion, we have supplied our product for fashion launches, often with celebrity endorsements. We also supply our Cocktail ice lollies to people having parties and social gatherings (barbecues etc) at home.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your package graphics design?

Fresh, exotic and refreshing ingredients, mixed and crafted by professionals
Evoking nostalgic feelings of fun, adventure & exotic escapism and the feeling you have something of high quality in your hands.
For adults ONLY. Definitely not for kids.

What package graphics design styles do you like?

Because the packaging is small, let's keep things minimalist and clean, as opposed to cluttered. Our product is also innovative and modern with a cool brand name.
Here are some examples of packaging design that I like, along with the reasons I like them.

http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2013/1/11/indust... - I like the elegance & simplicity. Also looks innovative and has careful and direct use of colours.

http://www.bigfish.co.uk/ - I pretty much like most of their stuff. They are respnsibile for some of the most eye-catching brands we have on the supermarket shelves here in the UK.

http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2012/1/17/abelha... - love the illustrations but this is perhaps a risky direction to head in. Although, if you have any interesting suggestions on a potential illustration that would suit our brand, I’d be delighted to hear from you.

http://www.stories.com/Beauty/Bath_body/Body_mo... - I like the colour smudge. Might be an interesting way for us to differentiate between our flavours.

http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2011/5/3/rezept-... - again, I like the colour smudge

What colors do you want to see in your package graphics design?

From a printing perspective, I think it best to limit to three colours. One colour should be solid white. This will be the background cover, providing us with the blank canvas on which we will design. The second colour should be black which we will use for our text. The third colour is where we have creative license. For each of our up and coming flavours, I would suggest the following colours although I would be glad to have your input.

Gin, Orange & Zesty Lemonade – yellow (lemon)
Vodka, Pineapple & Pink Grapefruit - pink
Rum, Pineapple & Coconut - green (pineapple leaves)
Rum, Mango & Passionfruit – orange (mango) or purple (passion fruit)

What colors do you NOT want to see in your package graphics design?

I hope that the question of colour has been sufficiently addressed above.

What adjectives should best describe your package graphics design?

Clean & legible, uncluttered, cool, trendy, modern,

What content must be included in the package graphics design?

drinkaware logo (to be provided)
WSET recommended licensing (to be provided)
4.7% ABV
Ingredients list (to be provided)
Facebook & Twitter symbols (@ICELYDONE)

Brief updates

By lefti_99 on 4-Dec-13 9:36 a.m. GMT

Having spoken to the printing company I should update my initial brief:

We will now be printing on white plastic (as opposed to clear). This means that there will be a choice for the 3rd color:

black, color 1 and color 2 printed on white stock.

Thank you,

A quick update on some more examples I have seen that I like.

I am wondering if black would serve us better as the background colour – instead of white.

Some examples:

http://www.thedieline.com/resource/6-2012-winne... – I also like the use of the dividing line here.

http://www.thedieline.com/resource/DLAwards_spi... – I like the minimalist way the boxes are laid out to present info.

http://www.thedieline.com/resource/DLWARDS_meri... – again, I like the minimalist way the boxes are laid out to present info.

Thank You all for your entries so far and the time and effort that has gone with it.

Thanks again for the entries that are coming in. Can I just ask any future designs not to include any imagery of cocktails and ice cubes. (including cocktail umbrellas etc). It's not at all what I am looking for. I do however, love some of the fruit impressions I have seen, to help represent some of our flavours.

Thanks again and I look forward to reviewing further entries.

Thank You for all of your entries. I thoght the standard was very high and it has made my decision very difficult. Please give us the Xmas period to finalise our choice and I look forward to reporting back ASAP - hopefully before New Years Eve. Thank You all, and Merry Christmas.

Thank You all for your entries. My apologies for the delay, it's been a hugely difficult process deciding who we'd like to move forward with.

I am in the process of checking our favourite entries with the licensing authorities to make sure we create a package design that will not pose problems going forward.

Thank You for your continued patience and thank you again for your efforts and participation.

Good luck and I'll be in touch ASAP.
