47squares.com is a professional studio specializing in design and development for web / mobile. We differentiate ourselves by our speed, our ability to work on almost any platform, and our cost. Our clients make up 3 categories: Startups, Corporate, Small Business; ranging from Fortune 50 companies & high profile startups to small independent business owners.

Do you require that a .COM or other URL be available for the new name?

Yes we would like the name to have the accompanying domain available. We are open to using newer domain extensions such as .er, .it, .me, .io, .by - etc but we prefer a .com name.

We are a web agency. We do custom design and development of web and mobile applications.

Our clients make up 3 categories: Startups, Corporate, Small Business; ranging from Fortune 50 companies & high profile startups to small independent business owners. Often we work with startups that have literally just an idea, sometimes we work with corporate customers that would like to build a third expanded version of software they already have. We're starting to scale our business and start advertising: our ideal customer type are startups with interesting products that would like us to accelerate their application development. We also work often with business founders that have seed capital but no technical expertise; we work as technology partner.

What 3 things do you want your company name to communicate to your customers?

Cutting edge, professional, overqualified, thought leaders, creative. Really looking for a name that is versatile and doesn't pidgeon hole us into one image. Needs to be flexible, versatile, and most of all memorable.

What character, tenor, or spirit do you wish to convey?

Our model is that we try to convey ourselves as a top tier, expanded agency but then capture sales by showing them our prices are less than half our competitors. Obviously this doesn't need to be captured in the name but it gives you an idea of the bigger picture as to why we are popular.

Are there any words or phrases you especially like or hate?

We especially like brandable names. Things that aren't words but come off well or phrases / two word concatenations. We think alliteration works well with names. We like words that could be used for anything but are memorable. We like the idea of "lab" because it implies you tinker and build really complex things (we do). //However we are the team thats cheap, flexible, fast and can understand your business quickly.//
Don't use words that come off as corny or obvious adjectives unless it has a ring to it. Don't limit the name to just design or just development, we do both.

Do you have other info you want to share?

The original name was poking fun at 37signals.com and square.com. Now that we're investing in aggressively expanding we essentially have to grow up the firm and leave the sarcastic routes to our blog. Here are some general guidelines for creating a name:
