What do you do?
Purtein is a Boston based biotechnology company founded in 2006 and is dedicated to improving the purification of proteins, a key component of medical research. Purtein is creating a unique family of protein purification products. We are soon to release our new product line, based on a proprietary technology that is optimized for fusion protein recovery and purity in an inexpensive, rapid two-step column chromatography system.
Do you require that a .COM or other URL be available for the new name?
What is your industry?
Life Science/ Medical Research
Describe your audience
Research scientists who study proteins of interest by purifying target proteins by isolating them from other proteins. These scientists work mostly at university labs, Government research facilities, and in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
What 3 things do you want your product name to communicate to your audience?
1)Affinity- The product is aimed to increase the ability "tagged" proteins to be attracted to the target so they can be collected. While the exact science is not important, the idea that our product increases this attraction is important. Additionally, our specific technology is based on the same chemicals as human hormones, which of course, is another facet of the products connection to affinity and attraction.
2)Fidelity- The products goal is to allow the researcher to collect a high yield of high purity proteins. Affinity addresses the first of those qualities, Fidelity will address the 2nd of those qualities.
3)Uniqueness- We want our new products name to stand out from the competition and reflect the innovative nature of our new technology.

What character, tenor or spirit do you wish to convey?
There are three concepts we like for the name of the product.
1)A name that would conveys fidelity and/or affinity; for instance PureCapture.
2)A name that conveys attraction, both because the product will have the quality of increased attraction and because the association our technology has with hormones, which effect human attraction.
3)The unique knot structure of the molecule our technology is based on lends itself to the idea of using the concept of a knot in our nomenclature.
Are there any words or phrases you like or hate?
We do not like long names or overly complicated names that basically describe the product, such as are common from our competition.
We appreciate names that are:
Memorable and easy to pronounce.
Convey a positive attribute or idea.
Contain more than one of the concepts discussed in this proposal.
Will make it easy to pick the next product name because there are related words or names. As an example; if the name conveyed an animal name we could easily name the next product after a similar animal.
Do you want to include additional info?
The product is based a chemical structure called a cystine knot, which we shorten to CK. We would like the name to work well with the initials CK since we would plan on using it as a suffix or prefix to the name.
