What do you do?

Men can cut their own hair with electric clippers... In fact, there's a clipper/trimmer/epilator/laser for every type of hair on a man's or woman's body, except woman's hair (on their head). We are developing a handheld electric beauty tool to enable women to cut hair at home. The product looks like a typical beauty tool, a flattening iron (see attached photos of the product). It incorporates a clipper, so the words "clip, crop, cut, style" are acceptable to incorporate into the product name, but are not required. Branding is professional - we enable women to get a good quality haircut at home. They can cut their own hair, recruit a friend / family member to help, do minor trims between salon cuts, or cut their daughter's hair. The product offers users convenience, cost savings (although we don't want that reflected in the branding), and confidence / empowerment that they can take haircutting into their own hands. It's NOT a joke to cut your own hair - this product if fun to use but must have a name that implies you can get a good quality / professional cut. The tool is aimed at women 12-65 years of age with longer hair (chin length or longer) - but we are focusing on the younger end of this age range. Men with long hair could also use it.

Do you require that a .COM or other URL be available for the new name?

yes but doesn't have to be www.name.com - can be www.nameplussomethingelse.com

Target Audience

What is your industry?

Other

Describe your audience

Women 12-65, with emphasis on the lower end of the range (12-30). Our customers are varied: cost-sensitive women, women with no time who need to fit the haircut into their busy schedule, moms of daughters, teenagers who want a trim but don't want to cut off length (a typical fear when going to the salon is they will get too much hair cut off), and perfectionists. We serve the "low maintenance" (just need a haircut) and the "high maintenance" (want their ends to look fresh all the time). The values our product provides to these women are: #1: convenience, no appointments necessary, #2 Cost - once you buy it haircuts are free, #3 frequency / touch-ups - have beautiful hair all the time because you can freshen up your ends whenever you want, #4: control over length. After that come the ability to be creative with your haircut, social, fun, etc...

Hairstyling is no joke, so the brand/name needs to sound professional, high quality, and able to help them achieve a good result.

Secondarily after women, we want our product to be acceptable for men with longer styles, and professional sytlists. Any name should not alienate these groups. The name could someday have a modifier, like ZipClip Woman, ZipClip Pro, ZipClip Guy, for example, to indicate who it is made for.

What 3 things do you want your product name to communicate to your audience?

Professional - enables you to get a beautiful haircut at home. Convenience - anytime, anywhere, fits YOUR schedule. Confidence - our tool makes haircutting easy so you won't make a mistake (a major fear with haircutting). OTHER: Empowerment and self-sufficiency - our product is an enabler - it helps you do something you didn't have the confidence to do before. It is technically easy to use. It cuts a perfectly straight line. By manipulating it, though, you can sculpt the cut. Gives users freedom from the salon, and to create their own style.

CreaClip and Bango help women cut hair - they are simple and cheap, not as serious as our product is. The InStyler is different but I don't want our name to be confused with the name InStyler

Style

What character, tenor or spirit do you wish to convey?

The product is professional and cool, it enables women to do something they couldn't do before / or didn't have the confidence to do before. The user is young and clever, or at least thinks that way. Spunky and self-sufficient. Achieves impressive results without you knowing how they did it.

Are there any words or phrases you like or hate?

no - go for it!

Do you want to include additional info?

The name should be one or two words, or two words connected together. It can be a made-up name like "Sephora", or it can be a combination of two words like "StyleAccomplice", for example.
I like alliteration but don't feel limited by this (ZipClip, FitBit)
