Business Info

What does your company do?

We make tools to help filmmakers market and release their films. Through our site, filmmakers will be able to coordinate both distribution (from booking theaters to streaming their content through iTunes and Netflix) and marketing (by leveraging social media, buying ads, driving reviews, etc.) of their movies, with an emphasis on collecting and leveraging data in a smart and automated way throughout the process.

The site will serve both the long tail of indie filmmakers (who currently don't get seen beyond the festival circuit, but who probably have, at very least, friends and family members who'd be thrilled to attend a theatrical premiere of their work) and big-name directors (who'd like to develop more direct relationships with their fans, and find ways to better control the fate of their films).

Do you require that a .COM or other URL be available for the new name?

Yes. As we're web-based, we definitely need an available (or purchasable) URL.

Target Audience

What is your industry?

Film / Tech

Describe your customers

We're selling first and formost to filmmakers, then secondarily to the audiences of their films.

What 3 things do you want your company name to communicate to your customers?

1. We love movies.
2. The movie industry is broken and stagnant.
3. We can fix it, and make both filmmakers' and audiences' lives better in the process.

List the names of your top three competitors

There aren't any direct competitors yet in the movie world. In the music space, similar companies include Bandcamp, Fanbridge, and Topspin. There are non-tech companies that do a manual version of what we're offering, like Filmsprout. And there are a few companies that do a small part of what we're trying to do, such as Distribbr and Createspace

Style and Concept

What character, tenor, or spirit do you wish to convey?

We're a tech company, and are happy to sound like one, though we also want to convey that we're movie guys at heart.

Are there any words or phrases you especially like or hate?

Nothing Web 2.0-ish. (Please don't elide the penultimate letter [Flickr!] to make us 'cool'.)

Do you have other info you want to share?

Right now, the temp name is Rulebreaker. Save us from making that permanent!
