What does your company do?
Nerdlink (working title) is a not-for-profit crowd sourced video tutorial website targeted at Australian high school students. Users upload short video tutorials explaining subject-specific topics, to compete for cash prizes for the best video. Eg. Win $150 upload a video explaining how to structure an essay or Win $150 get together with your mates and shoot a short video about the characters in Shakespeares Henry IV or Win $300 for your school for the best video on how to differentiate (maths) or Think you know a great way to memorize the periodic table? Upload a video explaining it to compete for $100
Content is all free, and users vote for their favourite video (most votes wins the comp). Users who can afford it can contribute small donations to the upcoming competitions currently fundraising for the prize money.
For students viewing the videos, it provides a cheap and easy way of improving their understanding of key concepts, improving their marks, and for online sharing and socialising. For content submitters, it provides the chance to show off their knowledge, use their creative skills, and build on their knowledge of the topic in the process. For teachers, it provides another learning resource to boost their arsenal of tools.
The aim is to make improving education accessible for every student, in a free, fun, social and engaging way. Its high school meets web 2.0
