Academic Cancer Research
What do you do?
Contained within a Cancer Center, our research group develops mobile health application to facilitate the delivery of healthcare to our patients. For this project, we have created an interactive, web-based application that uses videos and other tools to illuminate or uncover the unknowns that many patients face when dealing with costs/finances related to their cancer treatments. The application is intended to provide patients clarity on this process via videos, communication coaching techniques, static educational materials, and a patient program assistance tool.

A diagnosis of cancer can be challenging. Even though you might not be feeling your best, you still have to make it to your doctors appointment, undergo tests, and receive treatment all of this while balancing responsibilities at home and work. The last thing you need to worry about is money.
Unfortunately, one of the unspoken challenges cancer patients face is cost. Its common for cancer patients to face mounting bills from their treatment. In fact, research has shown that 1 out of 3 families have trouble making ends meet due to healthcare bills. The average, insured cancer patient might be paying hundreds of dollars a month out-of-pocket for their treatment. If you are experiencing unexpected out-of-pocket costs from your treatment, you are not alone.
Its normal to feel worried about costs, and (Name here) can help reduce that worry. First, (Name here) can guide you through important topics related to insurance and affording health care. Second, (Name here) can connect you to financial assistance resources specific to your treatment and financial situation.
