Business Info

Business Name

IWGuide

What do you do?

I develop iPhone / iPad applications. My project here is for an iPad application targeting mainly Netflix customers that use the streaming service called "Instant Watch".

IWGuide stands for "Instant Watch Guide".

The application will let a user browse/discover the new movie titles, from the Netflix "Instant Watch" streaming service, released:
- this week,
- in the next week or 2,
- movies that will be removed soon.

The application look & feel should be a modern paper magazine (glossy paper). Movie posters and movie titles should be clearly visible, when flipping pages.

Target Audience

What is your industry?

iPad users interested by Netflix Instant Watch streaming titles.
The application will be free and will not require a Netflix subscription, so the app can be used beyond Netflix customers.
The app is the equivalent of a TV guide, where a user will open, flip through the pages to see what is available. Users will not spend more than 5 minutes in the app, so finding content quickly is important.

The app will be ad supported. Ad portrait dimension: 768 x 66 points and 1024 x 66 points for a landscape

What 3 things do you want to communicate to your audience through your app?

- magazine style (aka paper style, glossy high quality magazine)
- Instant Watch / streaming
- Netflix

Style and Details

How many app screens do you need designed?

I need the 4 screens.

There is 3 main screens of the applications to be designed. One screen should have at least 3 different layout (screen #2 read below).
Please download the attached PDF file to understand each screen in details. It should be possible to navigate from screen to screen (back button or similar concept).

Splash Screen: 1
Splash screen is the screen that will appear when the application start and stay visible for a few seconds until the application is ready. The splash screen do not have any possible user interaction, it should be attractive and give an idea of what to expect when the app is ready to use

Main screens: 3
Screen #1: Table of Contents
This is the 1st screen the user will see. It will be the one presenting the table of contents of the magazine, and let the user decide which section he want to browse: released this week, coming soon (next week or 2), movies that will be removed soon from streaming. The screen should be showing when was the content last updated.
The main screen should have an area for searching for a movie.
The main screen should have an area to display an ad too.

Screen #2: magazine page
This is the screen that the user will see after coming from the main screen (#1). Screen #2 is the main page(s) of the magazine, and thus like a magazine there should be different layout. The screen will be the one presenting information in a magazine fashion. It will have a layout to display many movie posters, and extra informations: movie title, release year, Netflix Rating, movie genres.
The main screen should have an area for searching for a movie.
The screen #2 should have an area to display an ad too.

Screen #3: Movie detail
This screen is the screen that will appear when the user select a movie from the magazine page (screen #2). It could be a standard iPad popup window that appear when the user tap on a movie, or it could be a full 'magazine' style page.
The movie detail screen should show all the information related to the movie (poster image, synopsis, release year, duration, ...), please download the attached PDF to read more.

Ad portrait dimension: 768 x 66 points and 1024 x 66 points for a landscape

Do your app designs need to be a particular size?

Portrait iPad screen: 768 (W) x1024 (H)
Landscape iPad screen: 1024 (W) x768 (H)

Or any other size greater & proportional to the iPad screen example: 2048x1536.

Ad portrait dimension: 768 x 66 points and 1024 x 66 points for a landscape

What mobile app styles do you like?

One app style that is good is: EW's Must List for iPad

Other style
- Flipboard iPad app
- The Daily iPad app

What colors do you want to see in your mobile app design?

Netflix use a lot the color red, so some tone of red can good, and some smooth blue can be good too

What colors do you NOT want to see in your mobile app design?

pink
yellow

What adjectives should best describe your app design?

Modern
Cool
Clean

Do you have additional info or links you'd like to share?

The application overall look & feel should be like a modern magazine that people will want to read & flip through pages to glance quickly what is new.

User will not be spending hours reading the content, but most likely flip pages like a TV magazine to see what they can watch, so content clarity is important.
