What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
The name sort of says it all. We are a small family-run wine tour business offering 5-8 tours per year in wine regions across the globe. We are due for a website redesign/brand refresh at some point and therefore will first need a new logo. Our typical customer tends to be in the 50-65 year range however we are looking to expand and infuse that with a younger audience. Tour guests tend to well off financially but we do try to price our tours fairly for all and pack a lot of value.
Hence the new logo (and later new site). A more contemporary logo combined with a refreshed site may help us appeal to a more younger diverse set in addition to our core audience. Additionally, as there are other competitors who do not focus on logo/branding we want to do something to help us stand out.
**The logo should be unique and upscale but approachable and not snobbish.**
Key terms which we try to focus on for our tours:
EXPERIENTIAL - Unlike tours which hit multiple cities and sights one day after another, we focus on a particular region or theme and immerse our guests - allowing them to unpack their bags and get intimately familiar with the regional culture, cuisines, history and wines of course. Also unlike some competitors, we try to make each tour unique - we do not do the same exact itinerary twice. Sure we get our guests into some of the worlds top wine producers but we also focus on making each tour unique & immersive. We don't just visit wineries in a particular wine region, we tie in in the terroir, the regional cuisine, the history and more of a particular wine region. One day may be a tasting and dinner at a Michelin restaurant and the other may be walking the fields during harvest time with a BBQ lunch with locals in the vineyards; another may be a cooking class or walking with dogs on a hunt for truffles.
EXCLUSIVITY - We get our guests into some of the top, most exclusive wineries that the average person might not be able to access otherwise. In some cases, we've gotten our guests into wineries that usually only accommodate visits from professionals in wine distribution.
VALUE - this is not always a good term to use when marketing upscale but none the less it is something we try to provide. We could charge much more for our tours; comparison with some of our competitors underscores that fact.
TRUST - we have been doing this for more than 30 years and we have refined our craft and know our stuff.
Also worth noting, we actually have 2 products/services under the "Wine Lovers" brand umbrella. This would be for our Wine Lovers Tours brand - which is the primary focus of this design effort. However we currently use "Wine Lovers of Connecticut" for our Connecticut, USA based local wine tasting and appreciation club. As such we may later wish to make a variation of the winning Wine Lovers Tours logo for our "Wine Lovers of Connecticut" tasting club (or CT which is the state/province acronym). So something using the "Wine Lovers" brand umbrella might translate better in both uses. However, we don't want to hinder creativity as again the "Wine Lovers Tours" logo is primary focus and goal - so if there is something that ties wine and travel together really well that's fine by us. Be careful with heart themes, we might be open to something with them if done well, but if not executed well it could come off as corny or healthcare related. There is plenty of great design in the wine grower (wineries particularly in many cases do a wonderful job with bottle label designs & abstracts) and restauranteur spaces for design cues/ideas. Interestingly, many tour/travel companies tend to not have much in the way of logos/creative.
What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)
We do not currently have any sort of branding or style guide for reference however the winning logo would likely help us as a starting point to create one. As such we are open to your suggestions and your creativity.
the logo should be unique and upscale but also approachable and not snobbish. It should invoke thoughts and passions associated with wine, cuisine and travel.
It can be abstract or simple/more obvious
Color Palette: I would likely lean toward an Earth-tone themed color palette with a burgundy or dark rich red as the primary color. Certain grays and other earth tones can often work well with burgundy/dark reds as well and often give a contemporary feel.
Think things regarding the appreciation of wine, foodies, the love of travel
A custom-designed, wine-related graphic or abstract next to the branding text might work, or an custom icon/graphic focused on or utilizing the "W" or the "WLT" acronym might work in combination with the branding text.
We would likely need variations of the logo in both an horizontal orientation (as the main logo) and a stacked/tile/circle/square version (which for example can be used in squared uses such as Facebook tiles/icons).
The logo can be multiple colors but it would also need to work monotone or as a knockout on dark.
The logo should also ideally scale well up or down in size.
Our URL is WineLoversTours.com but we DBA as Wine Lovers Tours so I'm not sure which is better to use in the logo at this juncture. Open to your suggestion but if not I may make that call as I select the winning design and finalize any modifications before taking delivery.

Do you have any other info or links you want to share?
Our web site www.wineloverstours.com - for informational purposes only - not for visual or styling cues as we are looking to redo our logo, refresh our brand and eventually our web site. The web site was designed more than 10 years ago and as we didn't have a logo design at the time we resorted to using a modified version of the site header as a logo which it was never really designed for.
Thanks and Happy New Year! ;-)
