What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?

The word winocracy is a combination of wine and cracy which means power/rule of. The ethos and mission behind Winocracy is to democractise wine: empower consumers to make informed decisions and protect them from misleading marketing strategies. Obviously this is just wine, not a serious matter of human rights or the like, so this somewhat dramatic revolutionary discourse is a bit tongue-in-cheek. So I want to show that I am self aware of my slightly humorous dramatic revolutionary / freedom-fighter positioning and I want to make this stand to clearly position the brand with this very clear ideological message of freedom, democracy, defending the oppressed consumers who are lost in this elitist and conservative world of wine where power is held by so-called experts and old established producers especially in France and Italy.

So one way to convey this is to take popular images from well known struggles and adapt them to wine. I have attached a couple of examples (1970s leftist fist; the Marianne from the French revolution against the monarchy) and we could adapt them to wine by putting a wine bottle in the fist or having the Marianne clench a wine bottle instead of the French flag. Another idea I had is of a greek type statue of lying down eating a bunch of grapes, instead drinking from a bag-in-box. These are just some ideas to get you thinking, I am sure there are better ideas to be found. Execution is important and it has to work as a header for a web site.

The website is initially a blog and a limited online store. I plan to develop it either into an innovative business model for a multi-vendor store and or a huffington post for wine, i.e. develop the blogging platform. It is unlikely that this logo will be used in a more traditional sense (letter-head, business cards etc.) so it only really needs to work as a header on a homepage.

What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)

image + text I think. I want to keep it open to start with. I usually provide fast feedback so if you are going down a track I don't like i will let you know right away.
