LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Discovery Education is the education arm of the Discovery Channel. Our teacher community is known as the Discovery Educator Network. It is a community of over 100,000 educators collaborating to find ways to improve education by integrating digital media in the classroom. Our top evangelists are our 6000+ STAR Discovery Educators. We support them by providing them professional development opportunities and training materials, and then they share the power of Discovery Education with other educators in their school, district and state.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
Every year, we host a virtual conference. It's sort of unique, in that we do offer a virtual track with a keynote and several workshop sessions, but we also host about 30 in person sites around the US for people to attend face to face. At the in person sessions, breakfast and/or lunch is provided, and often they turn off the virtual track and host their own in person sessions. So it gives you the face to face experience and 'buzz' that you get from attending a conference in person, but a high quality thread of virtual presentations ties all the local events together at a national level.
It's a very cool event and about 1200+ teachers participate in it.
This year is the first year that we are providing a 'theme' to the event and we want a logo to go along with it. The theme is going to be "Tech or Treat".
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Tech-savvy educators. Primarly, our audience is K-12 teachers and tech coordinators. We are a tight community that works hard but also plays hard.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Don't have any in particular. We're looking for creative ideas!
In general, things to keep in mind is that we're a community of tech savvy educators. We focus primarily on Digital Storytelling and using media in the classroom.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Required text is "DEN" and "Fall Virtual Conference" and "Tech or Treat". Including 2009 in there is a bonus.
I've included a couple other images that we commonly use including our 'hero' graphic. If you check out http://community.discoveryeducation.com/... you'll see examples of badges that people use for their blogs to identify themselves as members of our community. Do not feel obligated to use any of these images, but you can certainly feel free to do so.
While the theme is Tech or Treat, we don't want to go too over the top with the Halloween imagery. Keep in mind that these are going to be public school teachers wearing these!
