LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Vegan Represent (veganrepresent.com) is a vegan message board. We started in 2003 and in internet years that's OLD. We've been providing a community for people exploring veganism in a constructive and friendly way all this time. We're completely volunteer based providing this service and site free for anybody. We never did get around to making a logo or site design and would like to brand our community. To start we're looking for a logo to encapsulate our mission. We advocate that first and foremost people who are vegan should "represent", that is to lead by example: "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
We advocate integrity, honesty and positive forms of activism and living. Our attitudes stem from hip hop and punk rock roots. Represent, Come Correct, Recognize and DIY (do it yourself) are the basic tenets we abide by.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
A logo for the site and for print. The web version will appear on the top of our message board and the print version will go on business cards, tshirts, buttons, ink stamps and other SWAG for conferences and such.
To accommodate all these forms we would like something that would be recognizable small and translate well to one color printing but also flexible enough to accept color.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
People who are vegan or thinking about veganism. We strive to mainstream veganism but do not wish to kowtow to popular culture. We wish to influence and change it in positive ways.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Design-wise something that mirrors the philosophical ideas from the various subculture genres previously mentioned but something more inclusive, easy to digest and less baggage.
Whimsical, perhaps flat, positive and strong. Something that can be followed through to an eventual site design.
On the vegan front Herbivore (herbivoreclothing.com) has some nice stuff but errs a bit too exclusive.
We are influenced by graffiti art including artists such as Chris Silva, neckcns, Shepard Fairey, Banksy, etc you know the drill...
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
It should say "Vegan Represent" and maybe a ".com" or some way to promte our URL (veganrepresent.com).
We would like some form of iconography or graphic treartment.
We do NOT want the following:
Just a type treatment - please no photoshop filtered type treatments etc.
Distressed type - Every vegan website in the world uses distressed type because they are so cool and edgy. We by our nature are edgy but we don't need to flaunt it.
"Web 2.0" - We need a design that will age well. Please avoid glossy candy dropshadow reflective design.
Plant symbolism - Veganism is about much more than diet. Please avoid any food references and that includes plates, forks, leaves, plants, flowers, tress etc.
