LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Grey Matter Research & Consulting is a market research firm (you know - those annoying surveys and focus groups that actually help major companies decide what to do strategically). Well, we're GOING to be a market research firm - as soon as you design us a logo (we're just getting started). We work nationally and even some internationally with both qualitative and quantitative research (the perceptions and the numbers).

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

This will be our primary company brand identification - used on the website, business cards, letterhead, presentations, reports, etc. We need a file that can be used in a variety of ways, so an rgb transparent png file ultimately will be most helpful. Simple, with no gradients, that will not cause us heartburn no matter how we try to use the file.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Businesspeople in research, marketing, fundraising, and branding represent our primary target audience. We want this logo to be professional and classy, but with a bit of a fun or creative twist. Nothing too off the wall (we're not an ad agency here), but nothing too stuffy or staid either. Want to inspire feelings of trust, expertise, intelligence, reliability - but with a slightly fun/creative twist. We're not the white shirt/pocket protector crowd.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

Grey Matter obviously refers to brain power, so some sort of "brain" visual element is the most obvious approach - but not the only one we'd consider (if you do incorporate a mind or brain visual element, it should avoid looking like clinical or medical research). We're very open to your creative ideas. Grey Matter does NOT refer to the color, so we're not looking for a grey logo. Font and logo need to be clearly readable - no form over function.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Want a catalog of bad logo design? Check out the market research industry (www.quirks.com - click on the Supplier Sourcebook or the file we've uploaded here as bad examples). We want to stay away from research stereotypes - arrows, silhouettes of heads, charts/graphs, maps, globes, eyes, outlines of people, light bulbs. In the name itself, visual emphasis is on "Grey Matter" as primary, "Research" as co-primary or secondary, "& Consulting" as tertiary. Would like to have the name incorporated into the design, but also have a visual element that can stand alone without the name (like the Mickey Mouse head silhouette functions beautifully with or without the Disney name attached). Would like something with some depth/dimension to it, rather than just flat, and would be open to something that suggests motion or movement (although the latter is not necessary). Also want a logo that is more than just the name (and we're not using the acronym GMR&C for anything visually).
