About Your Company
The Illinois Digital Heritage Hub is an organization that gathers and provides access to historical, educational, and informational digital resources as well as artwork from across the state of Illinois. Target audiences include K-12 educators and learners, genealogists, family and local historians, as well as institutions and agencies that wish to contribute their materials. Top 3 Things
Coherence and cohesion, welcomeness, Illinois state identity
A LOGO RELEVANT TO THE STATE OF ILLINOIS:
The IDHH logo should capture some aspect of Illinois' identity and will therefore, require the designer to know a little about the state, such as the state bird, flower, etc. See the Illinois givernment website <https://www2.illinois.gov/Pages/About/StateSymbols.aspx> or Wikipedia for more information. For example, the logo's preferred color scheme, browns and reds, is based on the state seal and is also the website's color scheme. However, please feel free to experiment with color.
PLEASE KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE:
We are not looking for an overly complex design: preferably, a single image or two in addition to the project acronym, IDHH. You might experiment with the state of Illinois' shape or outline. Squeezing in the project's full name, Illinois Digital Heritage Hub, is optional but will probably take up too much space.
THE IMAGE AS A LAYER OVER A BACKGROUND:
Note that, on the website, as well as possibly on print outreach material, the logo will need to be layered over a greyscale background image and will therefore, need to be prominent on a greyish background. Feel free to experiment with borders. The background image is attached below. The site is responsive and, as the browser window is resized, the logo will float in the region of the background image circled in red.
SAMPLES FOR INSPIRATION:
In addition to the background image, several logo designs from other projects similar to the IDHH are included below.
The logo will need to be legible at a range of sizes. Several sizes of the image will be rendered on the website, the smallest being about 45 pixels tall and the largest about 85 pixels. The width is fairly flexible (a general guideline is no more than three times the height). If possible, the design could be scalable to or easily modified for a website favicon.
