LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
This logo is for a cool new blog aimed at Air Force personnel. The blog specifically discusses getting promoted in the Air Force.
**NOTE** This blog/logo contest is NOT affiliated with, sponsored or paid for by the Air Force, it's for people in the Air Force.
I truly believe this blog will give the people who read it an advantage over people who don't read it, and the logo needs to convey that idea. The logo should convey "Read this blog and you'll be cool, at the very least you'll get promoted, which means more money, which means you can at least buy cool stuff."
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
I need a great logo that can be used everywhere! I want Air Force people to love it so much that they start getting it tattooed on their biceps/babies! All kidding aside, so much stuff that's targeting military people is simple red, white, and blue and it's not visually forward at all. The Air Force came out with a new logo several years ago, but even that is beginning to look dated. I want something revolutionary. Something that excites people and will continue to excite them for years to come.
There are three approaches that you can use to start with (but feel free to blow my mind with something thats a combination of or a complete departure from what I'm about to say below):
- Promotions in the AF are largely based on a book, so that can be an element in your design.
- The logo can be general to the Air Force. For example, I've uploaded the current AF logo, you can update that for the year 3000.
- The logo can be a creative rendering of the letters "AFS" (for AF Striper).
I'm very excited about this project. I will do my best to provide a ton of feedback for all of your designs.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our target audience is 80% male, and ages 21-40. The logo must be very professional, but at the same time it needs to be very forward thinking/futuristic. When people see only the logo and know nothing else about the project, I want them to think that this is something cutting edge. I want people to wonder what is it and ask themselves how can they be apart of it.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Things I like:
I love a picture that can stand on its own without the words. See: http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/63103 or http://www.logospire.com/logos/1295 or http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/52231
I like that the little flower in this logo can be used as a favicon. I like the principal behind the flower, not the flower itself. Keep in mind my audience is mostly professional military men. See: http://www.logospire.com/logos/1292
I'm realizing as I look through other logos that the symbol is my primary focus. It will always be located to the left of the text and it needs to be strong.
The text should be nice too, but it doesn't need to be highly designed. You can add interest with choice of font or color.
Things I don't like:
Logos that are too abstract and don't stand on their owns without words. See: http://www.logospire.com/logos/860
Inspiration images:
~I'm uploading a color palette for you to use in your logo designs. On the website the green is a highlight color and will be used very sparingly.
~The majority of the site will use the various blues and white. I'm uploading a crop of the top of the blog where the logo will appear.
~There are pictures of 3 Air Force rank insignias and the Air Force's logo. I know the star is common in all three, but I'm not a big fan of it. Maybe you can tweak it to make it awesome, but you're definitely taking a risk.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
- As of right now the only thing I don't want is clipart.
- A reflection might be nice, but it's not necessary and again, the design should stand on its own without it.
