LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
We are Spuyten Duyvil an alt roots band out of Yonkers NY. The name is bastardized Dutch for "In spite of the devil" (It might also mean spitting devil or spinning devil.).
In our eponymous song, Anthony, the drunken squire of New Amsterdam's governor determines to 'spite the devil' and swim from the northern tip of Manhattan to the Bronx. This hubris pisses off the Devil, who appears in the form of a great moss bunker (a really big fish). They struggle, Anthony blows a trumpet in the Devil's face. He is released, exhausted, and drowns... At least according to Washington Irving
Our tag goes something like this:
Spuyten Duyvil wanders the last 100 years of American music conjuring embittered civil war veterans, recalcitrant small town bawds, suicidal bureaucrats, star crossed lovers and brave hearted fools navigating the mysteries of daily life...
Most importantly, check out our music at www.spuytenduyvilmusic.com and some lyric of ours. This should be the best indicator of who we are and what we do....
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a logo. The logo will be the basis for all of our visual materials including the cover of our upcoming EP. We want something scalable from a single color rubber stamp to a full color design.
The winning design(er) will get first crack at the CD packaging for our upcoming CD...
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
literate folks over 30 who like acoustic music and still get out of the house to see bands
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
we're open to ideas but expect to see some combination of any of the following: devilry, spinning, spiting, spiting, moss bunkers (giant river fish, see above), trumpets, Spuyten Duyvil (the southwestern tip of the Bronx), etc
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Again, we need a scalable design both in concept and in the deliverable for this gig. At minimum, we will need three version of the logo: a simple, iconic black and white line drawing, a low res color jpeg for web use and a full color, hi rez version for print...
