Who are you?
Social Media Club is a non-profit members association that started as a grassroots movement, inspired by the first BarCamp in Palo Alto. We are just beginning the transition from a fully open concept to a hybrid of a modern association, keeping our open/free membership but also promoting professional membership. Our motto is "If you get it, share it" bringing the open knowledge ethos to traditional business world and supporting programs that increase global media literacy. At present, we have local meetings in 200+ cities around the world.
What do you need?
I need a logo that will be used as the backbone of an online offline program, with both print and digital distribution. The impetus of finally launching this site and getting this logo is our first ever international conference of members and others in Orlando in November. We want to launch the site this week at socialmediauniverity.com
Ultimately this logo will end up on our web site, in banner ads online, on badges for attendees, on t-shirts, on PDF brochures and on-site for signage during the conference.
Should be full CMYK logo with type for SOCIAL MEDIA UNIVERSITY and a mark,
Who Is Your Audience?
Social Media professionals from our membership and the broader social media industry including big companies, small businesses, consultants, creative agencies, social software/tech companies and other professional service providers.
We Like These Examples
logo for http://socialmediaclubhouse.com/ - more modern
logo for http://socialmediaclub.org/ - more simple, traditional, now ubiquitous on laptops around the world
Apple logo, BarCamp Logo, Firefox Logo, Harvard Logo http://ribbit.com/ logo
We are really fairly open to different ideas, but want something solid/reputable with the typography, and somewhat stylized as modern like that clubhouse logo (which is actually an abstraction of the house we did that event in during SxSW)
We Absolutely Must Have
The text should only be
SOCIAL MEDIA UNIVERSITY (not necessarily all caps)
There should be room for us in the concept to add text to it (such as Orlando Florida, November, 10-12 2010 - but there are multiple ways we can accomplish this in placing it around or next to it, and the majority of the usage will be the logo typography and the mark alone.
The logo must look good in B/W as well as full 4 color - should also ideally use a PMS color palette for making printing easier to match exactly with online PNG's. Of late, we are partial to Purple color palette, especially as it relates to the idea of Masters Degrees in universities (ala the robes they wear at graduation) That said, we are only just barely 60% leaning towards the purple, so we can be swayed with the right concept (for instance, a latin crest of some sort)
